Dedicated to the artifacts of the Lanna Kingdom, the private Oub Kham Museum has a collection that features carved thrones, embroidered costumes, Buddha images, and antique jewelry.
The collection features priceless items used by royalty, the most notable being the oub kham—the golden bowl after which the museum is named. Though there are minimal signs, English-speaking staff members ensure that you know the story behind each item in the museum. Don’t forget to take a walk around the museum grounds which are resplendent with traditional Lanna architecture, statues, and fountains.
*Housing some artifacts dating back to the 13th century, this museum is a great place for history buffs. *There is an admission free to enter the museum, applicable to both children and adults. *Due to the small size of the museum, plan to spend only about 45 minutes visiting the collection.
Oub Kham Museum is located about half a mile (1 kilometer) outside of Chiang Rai on Nakhai Road, near the Den Ha Market. The busy highway is not ideal for walking, so hire a tuk-tuk to take you there and back.
The museum is open daily from early morning until early evening; the space rarely gets crowded so visit at a time that suits your schedule.
