Hiking Tours from Kathmandu
Hiking around the Kathmandu Valley gives you the opportunity to take in terrific mountain vistas and visit rural Nepali villages without having to venture too far from the capital or deal with the altitude sickness that plagues other treks in the country. Here’s what you need to know before your hike.

Day Hikes
Kathmandu is surrounded by traditional villages, comely hills, and relatively low-altitude mountains that are perfect for shorter treks and day hikes. One of the most popular day trips involves an early-morning departure to watch the sunrise at Nagarkot before heading out for a leisurely (mostly downhill) hike to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Changu Narayan Temple. To experience a part of Nepal many visitors miss, take a guided hiking excursion to Kakani to trek through pine forests and sample the local specialty, rainbow trout. Alternately, the recently developed trail from Sanga to Panauti passes through small villages that are rarely visited by foreign tourists.

Multi-Day Hiking Tours
Those with more time to spare can explore the Kathmandu Valley more deeply over the course of an overnight trip or a weeklong excursion. Shorter itineraries might visit Himalayan hill towns such as Bandipur, Nagarkot, or Dhulikhel, while longer trips venture farther afield into regions like Annapurna, Mount Everest, and the remote Ruby Valley.
