Things to do in  Perth

Welcome to Perth

Home to wombats, kangaroos, and a large portion of Western Australia’s total population, the city of Perth is the epicenter of a state that can feel like the middle of nowhere. The city, set along the banks of the Swan River, offers refuge from the surrounding wilderness, in the form of nightlife, street art, and a thriving local food and wine scene—all of which can be explored via a walking, Segway, or bike tour. With near-constant good weather and beaches on the Indian Ocean, Perth offers a plethora of ways to get outside, both within the city, in the Swan Valley, and beyond. Water-lovers can plan a trip on a scenic cruise ship, ferry, or kayak that floats down the Swan River and Shoalwater Bay (look out for dolphins); while desert-enthusiasts can book a day trip to Pinnacles Desert limestone formations or Wave Rock, complete with transportation and a knowledgeable guide. If you want more adventure, add a sandboard or 4WD experience across the massive Lancelin dunes. Rottnest Island, accessible by ferry from Perth or Fremantle, makes a great base for adventure tours—from biking to skydiving—while Penguin Island (45 minutes by ferry) is rightfully named for its penguins inhabitants, which you can see along with dolphins and sea lions. Oenophiles can taste the flavors of the region on a wine tour, stopping at the town of Margaret River to pop into local boutiques along the way.

Perth Bell Tower

Perth Bell Tower

star-4.5603
Home to the historic Swan Bells, Perth's Bell Tower dominates the city skyline and makes for a fun Perth activity. For the opportunity to chime a bell yourself, book an interactive bell-chiming demonstration and receive an official certificate as proof of your new skill.Travelers can also head up the towering glass-and-copper spire to its three observation decks and look out over much of downtown Perth and the Swan River (the sixth-floor deck offers 360-degree views). The famous tower can also be admired from afar, perhaps as part of a photography tour that wanders the streets of Perth.More
