Colosseum

Piazza del Colosseo, Rome, 00184

The Basics

As the second most popular attraction in Italy after only the Vatican, the Colosseum hosts some 4 million annual visitors, meaning that long lines are nearly inevitable without a skip-the-line tour. Choose from a number of tours suited to any age or interest, such as a Colosseum underground tour that heads beneath the arena floor to explore a network of passages; a small-group guided tour of the third tier; or a night tour that offers an eery experience and relief from the daytime heat. Consider group tours, self-guided audio tours, or private tours to gain an understanding of this well-preserved ancient Roman amphitheater and its historical importance.

Very well organised even down to an email before with a change of time. Our tour guide Francesca was brilliant. She was very approachable if we needed to ask any questions and her knowledge and presentation of the tour was spot on. A lovely lady that made the tour a great experience this being our first time to Rome

Great Tour With Dario! 5 Stars!

Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome Semi-Private Tour MAX 6 PEOPLE GUARANTEED
Dario was an enthusiastic guide for our small tour of 6. He was knowledgeable, showing us illustrations throughout the 3-hour tour which were helpful to our understanding of the Forum and Colosseum. We did not see any other guides doing this. Dario was also concerned for our safety while walking on uneven surfaces and amongst throngs of people. We highly recommend a semi-private tour like this. It is well worth the additional cost.

Small-Group Ancient Rome and Colosseum Underground Tour
Not my first tour of the Colosseum and I still learned a lot. Access to new areas that have opened up since before Covid and as ever you can really feel the atmosphere. Not the cheapest tour perhaps but great value. The guide (herself an archeologist) was clearly very passionate.

Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome Semi-Private Tour MAX 6 PEOPLE GUARANTEED
This was a fantastic tour. They had just completed the walkways through the floor of the Colosseum during Covid. My kids are major history buffs and the guide was excellent with them. We all learned a lot and we were able to see things that were available because of our small group. I would not recommend for little little kids as it is a lot of walking and not stroller friendly. If your kids or you are into history this a great tour.

Fast track: Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum Tour
Absolutely fantastic experience and the guide was great. Super informative without being too chatty. I was just super glad to have gotten in to see the colosseum seeing as how difficult it was getting passes. The starting organization could use a little work (our time was changed and the meeting spot also changed) but it all worked out in the end. Terrific company and would recommend. 👍👍

Self-Guided Tour Colosseum Skip-the-Line Ticket
Very good experience. We got our tickets from the meeting point. We got very specific instructions and it was easy to follow. We only had to enter the colosseum at the time booked. Roman forum and Palestine hill had flexible timings. We should enter anytime we want before 6pm. We enjoyed our day and would definitely recommend.

Colosseum Arena Floor, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill
Is worth to invest in the fast pass Colosseum Arena Floor tour right where history happened, Manuel, our tour guy was amazing super funny and knowledgeable! Even if you know your history it pays off to have a guide showing you around, specially with amount of people that visits all these sides. You always have the freedom to wonder around or leave the group at anytime. After we finished with group we stayed for couple of more hours and it was an amazing experience.

Skip the Line Tour: Colosseum Official Guided Tour - Entrance Fee Included
A brilliant tour!! We had a wonderful tour guide who brought the past to life. She was also easy to talk to, friendly and helpful. I can't remember her name but she had blonde hair, possibly Elvi. There was a mix of ages in our group and I really feel it was suitable for all. Our guide shared a lot of information from different eras to give us a full perspective of the Colosseum's history. My children thoroughly enjoyed it too.

Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill Tour Professional Guided Tour
I didn’t book early enough for the full experience or the underground area. So this is what I could get last minute. Gets you the standard colosseum tour. Dino was an excellent guide.

Colosseum Arena Floor, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill Guided Group Tour
Our tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. She spoke loud and clear and she did well with keeping the group together in the big crowds. She even led us to a couple of spot to get good pictures. Our tour time was from 11:00a to 1:30p and my advice is that if your going in the summer months, book your tour early because it’s hot. Our tour started off with Palatine Hill, Roman Forum and ended at the Colosseum.

When to Get There

Since the Colosseum is most crowded during the middle of the day, begin or end your Rome tour with a visit first thing in the morning or just before last entry (which is an hour before closing time) in the late afternoon. Alternatively, choose a night tour for a unique, less crowded experience. Summer is the most popular time of year to visit, while the site receives fewer crowds in November through February, aside from the Christmas and New Year holidays.
