Part of the longest barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico and located at Texas’ southern tip, South Padre Island enjoys tropical weather and idyllic beach scenery. That’s made it popular among college spring breakers, who flock here to take part in the annual bacchanalia. During the rest of the year the vibe is more tranquil, as visitors come to fish, dolphin-watch, and experience other top things to do in South Padre Island, such as the Island Adventure Park. Recently, the town has even borrowed Cape Canaveral’s extraterrestrial mystique—SpaceX’s South Texas launch site is right next door.
