Transfagarasan the most scenic road Small group max 7 passangers
"I was traveling alone but was joined by a lovely young couple from the UK. We were picked up at Union Plaza Hotel in Bucharest right on time. I happened to be staying in a private home in Voluntari, so I met them at the hotel. They do pick up from other locations, as well. We had a beautiful countryside drive passing fields of corn and sunflowers, interesting haystacks (to me from Texas) and gorgeous architecture through villages on our way to the Transfăgărășan highway. Almost every village home has a garden. Lots of people along the roadside selling their vegetables, fruits and other goods. Horse/donkey drawn carts occasionally. Gabi was an awesome guide and great driver. When we saw bears (and we saw lots including one mom with her 3 cubs), he was great to position us in the car to take pictures. As you begin to climb into the mountains, the view is even grander. Greenery, rivers, waterfalls, tunnels, Lake Vidraru with its large dam that you cross, winding your way up to the top to Bâlea Lake. One specifically majestic waterfall we stopped at also had traditional Romanian goods for sale. Cheese, sausages, honey, etc. But, when you get to the top at Bâlea Lake, there are a lot of booths with goods, as well. You have a couple of hours to shop, eat lunch or go hiking by the lake. There are food stands with fresh hot corn on the cob, buliz cheese mămăligă (polenta with cheese in the middle), leather goods, clothes and much more. You may also eat at a restaurant if you wish to sit down. Just before we reached the top, we saw a flock of sheep on the mountainside grazing, but when we headed back to the car, the sheep were on the move near where we stood. That was cool. Must know: take a coat and hat or some kind of rain cover. It was 6.1° C (43° F). You start warm if not hot in Bucharest and it definitely gets much cooler with possiblity of rain and fog. We arrived in fog which was quite heavy, but humorous at the same time. We walked to a restaurant with Gabi in this thick fog not really believing there were actually going to be restaurants because we couldn't see, lol. There was and we ate right over the water. Fog lifted finally and the walk back to the car took much less time than it did originally to get to the restaurant. Because by then, we could see everything. It seemed like it took us 30 minutes to walk but only three to come back. We all found it quite funny! Returning down the mountain there are plenty of scenic spots for photos/videos, that Gabi was great at stopping at the right spots for pictures. This trip is truly not to be missed. Take Romanian money (lei) for many purchases because not all locations take credit/debit cards. Also, remember a variety of clothes because of the drastic weather changes. Gabi went above and beyond IMO. I would want him on any excursion. He spoke English as well as Romanian, of course. I don't know about other languages though. It was really breathtaking."..."

Bran Castle, Peles Castle and Brasov City - Private Tour from Bucharest
"Nicolas did a fabulous job. The man knows his van! We went from Bucharest to Peles Castle and Bran Castle. Due to time constraints on our part, we opted out of the tour of Brasov City, but instead had a wonderful lunch near Bran Castle. Peles was charming and scenic. The area is so peaceful. Nicolas asked us where we would like to go for lunch, and we asked for something the locals eat that was traditional Romanian. He took us to Vila Bran and the scenery was picturesque and the food exquisite. Nicolas is full of historical and cultural knowledge, and was very eager and willing to answer our questions. We were not into the Dracula scene, and was able to cater the tour to whether we wanted the fairy tale or historical version of events. During the tour, I could see others nearby staying close to hear his version of the tour as it was more interesting than those nearby. We got into a bit of a traffic jam as you can see in the photos that consisted of hundreds of sheep. It was quite a memorable experience. I will definitely look up Nicolas again if my travels take me back to Romania."..."
