Why Travelers Choose This Tour
Unlike many others, this fast-paced tour offers flexible start times, and full- or half-day options.
Hop aboard your transport in central Amsterdam and settle in for the scenic journey out of the city to the Dutch countryside. En route to several North Holland villages, listen to your audio guide and learn about the passing sights, including dikes and polders — areas of land reclaimed from the water.
Your first stop is at Zaanse Schans, a pretty town on the Zaan River and a popular destination due to its well-preserved windmills, some dating back to the 17th century. See evocations of traditional Dutch life at the historical shipyard, as well as iconic Holland windmills — entry into one is included with your tour.
Next, continue to Volendam and Marken and admire a quaint scene of fishing boats and the occasional local wearing traditional Dutch dress. In addition to stops in each town, you'll visit a nearby cheese farm for a demonstration and a sampling of its dairy production. A visit to a local shoemaker to admire the art of carving and painting the wooden clogs the Netherlands is known for is also a memorable part of the trip.
In the summer, you'll have the option to board a boat for a trip between the two towns.
Once you’ve snapped plenty of photos, your half- or full-day tour concludes with the return to central Amsterdam by coach.
Please note that this tour requires a moderate amount of walking.
This is a very good tour. Good value for the price. The only negative was there was some confusion in regards to the instruction on the meeting place. The instructions should mention to go to the tour office not just the IJ east hall.
Oh my gosh! My favorite tour! Included all that is so iconic about Holland. Wooden shoe factory, working windmills, cheese factory, cutest little towns! Fantastic! After spending the days in the city with museums and such, it was the perfect finishing touch for our visit to Holland. Would recommend highly!
Comfortable drive outside of Amsterdam. First stop was to see a working windmill. Since it was a half day tour, it was a bit rushed. Then they drove to Marken for a demo on clog making. They had all of us in a packed room for the demo. Afterwards, lovely boat ride to Volendam for demo on cheese making. That was the only free time we had to walk around this picturesque town. Would've liked more free time at the windmills but still worth this trip. Glad we went to the countryside.
This tour is a nice way to see a number of places in a short time. The windmills were very cool and we got to go into one of three windmills. You don't get much time to wander around which is the case on all three stops. The wooden shoe demonstration was better than I expected and the ferry ride to Volendam was picturesque. You lunch at Volendam which has a lots of cafe's overlooking the water. so if you don't want to eat at the guide's recommended place you don't have to. We would have enjoyed walking around the waterfront stores but there just isn't enough time. The guides were very good and the bus was clean and comfortable.
The tour through the Zaanse Schans Windmills was truly an eye opener to the real uses of windmills. These windmills are more pleasing to the eye than the new white ones installed throughout the world. The windmill has more usage than milling flour.
The Volendam tour showed the homes of the citizens of the Netherlands. The peaks into their homes was helpful in understanding how the people live. The lunch, on our own was delicious and worth the price. I wish we knew before hand how large the portions were, we would have only ordered one meal. The experience of seeing how cheese and waffles were made was delicious!!
My husband and I very much appreciated our trip to the Zaanse Schans Windmills, Marken and Volendam. Not only did we enjoy the interesting visits to the charming seaside resort, windmills and fishing village, we appreciated the chance to see from the bus the Dutch countryside and various homes. Our guides and driver--Sandra, Steph, and Nicholas-- kept us smiling, chuckling, and informed during our time traveling from place to place, by bus and boat. It was a rather quick and easy walk from the cruise terminal to the Central Station, the entry point for the tour. I would recommend this tour for people who wish to see the terrain and attractions of Holland outside of Amsterdam.
It was very commercialized everything went well it was smooth and organised but with viator we were expecting a small but it was a group of 59 our tour Sandra walk very quickly we could not see were she turning that made it hard to fellow the front of the group
Wouldn’t say that this trip was worth the money, we did the 7 hr trip. Too many people on trip, not enough time at any of the locations , glorified demos really about you spending money in there shops. My advise would be to hop on a bus and visit places yourself and do it in your own time schedule.
