A Quality Rum Lover’s Must
, May 2019
I was a Foursquare Rum afficianado heading into this tour. I had high expectations. This tour did not disappoint. First, our tour guide, Scott, actually went to school with Foursquare Master Distiller, Richard Seale, so there was an immediate connection. Though Foursquare lists on their website they offer free self-guided tours, a Foursquare representative greeted us when we arrived and led us on a tour through the distillery. He was very knowledgeable about the brand and the process. Obviously the rum tasting at the conclusion of the distillery was the best part. Such a great product line. The stop at the loca rum shop was a great insight into Barbadian culture. Pulling into Clifton Hall was like stepping into a post card. So much history sandwiched between architectural and natural beauty (the rum isn’t bad either). That should have concluded our trip, but we had some extra time, so Scott took us to a beautiful overlook of the east side of the island. The view was breathtaking. That also should have concluded the tour, but I’d mentioned to Scott that I wanted to try a good local fish cake. His place was closed. We tried another. Also closed. Checked with another good truck, they said to try the next town over. Scott took us there! Alas, no fish cakes. We thanked him for trying. On the way back to Bridgetown he decided to try one more spot and...victory! It was worth the wait. So good. I can’t recommend this local company enough. The attention to detail, the knowledge and the courtesy shown to us made this one of the best excursions we’ve ever been on. Many thanks!
