Montserrat monastery is a beautiful place. The early morning access means that you get to the monastery before the crowds to see it at its best.
We had about 3 hours to visit, with an hour long coach trip either side.
The guide took you to the church and the statue of the 'black virgin' and gave you some information on it and then left you to your own devises. We had time to walk to a cross on the mountain along a lovely wide path which took approx 20 mins each way but gave amazing vies back of the monastery. The funicular does not open until 10 am and we had to be at coach back at 10.30 so did not have the chance for this which is the only downside.

I thought we were going to watch the sunrise at Montserrat but the sun was well up almost before the bus began our one hour journey there. We did get to see the black Madonna without having to queue, but nothing else opens until 10am and we were asked to be ready to leave for home by 11.15. I went up on the funicular's first run at 10.20 but barely had time to look around at the top before catching the 11am one down again, and I was still late for the bus. Other people walked to the Cross viewpoint lower down but they too said they'd had no time to look at the museum or even collect their complimentary drink. On the way back, several passengers would have liked to pause for a few seconds to take pictures at one of the several spectacular viewpoints, but we were told there wasn't time. Montserrat is beautiful, and there is quite a lot to see, but it's not possible to do it justice on this quick tour. However, having said all that and while knowing that if I went again, I'd get a train, I have to admit that if it hadn't been for the convenience if this tour, I probably wouldn't have got there at all.

This is a wonderful place to visit. The skip the line early start was well worth it! The one draw back is the time allowed. We raced from one site to another and felt that we really missed a lot. I would recommend the travel site add an additional 1-1-1/2 hours to the trip. It would be much appreciated. Given that, we thoroughly enjoyed Montserrat. The short hikes were amazing and worth the effort.

We are so glad to go for early access.First we saw the sea of morning clouds enroute to the mountain, it was breath-taking.Most gladly, we avoided the long queues to see Black Madonna, it was such a breeze that we have enough time to explore the mountain by cogwheel on own, hike around the paths to a chapel, even having an ibex photo bombed us.Time is essence, by the time we got down from hike, the queue for black Madonna was snaking out from church to the quadrangle, estimating at least 2 hours wait

We met on time at an easy to find place and boarded the coach on an hour long journey to one of the loveliest places I have ever been. Martina our guide was fantastic, she spoke very good English and gave us lots of information along the way. We arrived at the monestary and Martina showed us where everything was and gave us our tickets for the museum and the liquor tasting. We entered the basilica before any crowds and managed to see the black Madonna without queuing and were able to take lots of pictures. We were also so very lucky as it was a public holiday and there was a mass being held and the choir of boys were singing. It was magical....we sat for a while for mass and then made our way outside. We took the funicular up to the top and were met with stunning views, you could not help but be mesmerised. We took the funicular back down and visited the gift shop and took part in the liquor tasting and also looked around the museum. I’m not an art fan really so maybe could of forgone this part. We met back at the coach for our journey back to our meeting point. This trip is so very worthwhile getting up early for as there were lots of cars queuing to get in when we were leaving. I felt very grateful that we were able to look around without the crowds. Thank you to Martina who kept us entertained on the journey and gave us lots of information. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone. The views above the clouds are breathtaking. Take good walking shoes and a coat as it is quite cool early in the morning

There is a reason, or indeed many reasons why Montserrat is included as one spot any Barcelona visitor should not miss. You have got to see it by yourself, and early morning is definitely the best time to do it.

This place in morning sunrise is beautiful. We loved it! The Monastery is just breathtaking and the tram up is great and you can hike up to the top. Overall take the morning ride. Less crowded and we went on Monday so even less crowded. We did stop for coffee beofre goign and on the return. I would recommend it to others.

Much as we hate getting up so early when traveling, the decision to buy Viator’s Early Access to Montserrat Monastery from Barcelona was the best decision as well as the best deal ! We saw all the important sights up there without have to wait in line. Our guide Alina was very good and efficient. We began to see long lines formed at the basilica just when we finished. It was so beautiful to see the sunrise high up in the mountain !

I'm glad we did the early access tour to Monserrat Monastery, no lines to see the Black Madonna. We had plenty of time to walk around and ride the funicular. Our tour guide was very nice and very knowledgeable of the place. I highly recommend this tour
