Overview

Fall in love with the UAE’s beautiful desert and mountains on this private day trip by 4x4 from Dubai. With a private guide, cruise past the desert plains and dunes in a comfortable 4x4. Absorb the tranquility and head into the rugged Hajar Mountains to Hatta Heritage Village, a recreation of an old mountain village with mud-and-stone houses, craft displays and more. Learn about bygone life here, and after a picnic breakfast, look for millennia-old desert rock fossils and see Camel Rock, a rocky outcrop that resembles a camel’s head. Also watch a Falconer demonstrate the hunting skills of the Emiratis’ favorite bird and share in his knowledge about why the magnificent Falcons are so special to the Nation.
  • Private day trip to Hatta Heritage Village and the UAE desert by 4x4 jeep
  • Travel with a friendly private guide from Dubai to the towering mountains of Al-Hajar
  • Discover the UAE’s contrasting scenery with enchanting city, desert and mountain vistas
  • Walk around Hatta Heritage Village to learn about its 16th-century mud-brick mosques
  • Pose for photos at the rock formations of Jebel Maleihah and Camel Rock
  • Enjoy personalized attention from a knowledgeable private guide
Meet your guide at your central Dubai hotel, relax into your air-conditioned 4x4, and start your full-day trip into the desert and Hajar Mountains.

Travel eastward through the desert interior, and on route, let your guide know if there are any sights that you want to see more of during your trip. Your tour is private, so the schedule can be tailored to your wishes.

As you head toward Hatta, watch as the landscapes change from open expanses to dunes, and the rocky foothills of the Hajar Mountains. Hear from your guide about Hatta itself, an old trading settlement known for its historical fort and rock pools nestled into the mountain slopes.

After roughly two hours, arrive at Hatta Heritage Village and explore it by foot. A recreation of an old mountain hamlet as it would have been before the UAE’s oil boom, the village is composed of dwellings and buildings built from mud, palm leaves, reeds and stone — just as in the past.

Head inside with your guide to view the simple houses, mosques and watchtowers, as well as the displays of weaponry, handicrafts and traditional dress that detail life here before the mid-1900s.

Afterward, stop to view Hatta Fort before driving deeper into the desert. Stop to enjoy a picnic breakfast of a burger and soda, and continue to Jebel Maleihah, nicknamed Fossil Rock. This rocky outcrop looms from the sands and is named after the ancient marine fossils embedded in its slopes. Also watch a Falconer demonstrate the hunting skills of the Emiratis’ favorite bird and share in his knowledge about why the magnificent Falcons are so special to the Nation.

Hop out to see the intricate fossils — imprints of shells and marine creatures that lived here when the Arabian Peninsula lay under the sea millennia ago.

Lastly, stop for photos of nearby Camel Rock — a bizarre formation that resembles a camel’s head—and then finish your day trip with a hotel drop-off.

We did not get what we expected...
Anita G

We did not get what we expected - the Hatta pools displayed on the image could not be visited due to visa requirements for Oman. Although the guides were really nice, we did not like that the organizer did not inform us in advance. I'd not recommend that trip but book something alternaively like a desert safari instead.

Dear Anita, Thank you for sharing your valuable feedback about our Hatta Safari you have recently joined with us. We apologize for not having fully met your expectation. Unfortunately, the Hatta Pools are not accessible as in the past and due to more frequent check-ups we had to change the tour itinerary. We are visiting now instead the Hatta Honey Bee Farm, Hatta Dam and Hatta Heritage Village among other places. We regret that your tour was affected due to changes in place. Please let us know when you will be in town again so that we can offer you our new Hatta tour! We would love to see you soon on one of our tours/safaris. Thank you for choosing ORIENT TOURS and taking the time to review us! Best Regards, Sarah P. Dubke Manager Guest Services ORIENT TOURS LLC

Nice trip, but we felt a bit rushed...

Nice trip, but we felt a bit rushed. We were told we had half an hour at Hatta Heritage Village, where we would have liked to spend more time, while in the end we were back home after 6 hours, instead of the 8 hours promised in the programme. We had a nice driver, who told us various stories and who was very accommodating to personal wishes with respect to the desert driving. The back office was poorly organised. The person on the phone did not know when we would be picked up, or how long the trip would last. He kept on asking which hotel was near our pick-up point, while we were to be picked up 4.5 km away from any hotel at our own residence. All in all, it was nice to have the car to our own with the private trip, but it was not value for money.

We are currently on the trip but expressed a clear disappointment to the tour operator who in return invited me to ‎fill you in on the situation.  As we saw on viator's website we shall have seen some natural pools as they are also featured in pictures on your site. The company has stopped to go there for 8 years now due to border issue‎ and this is not something they offer. This was the highlight of our trip and we couldn't do it. Clear disappointment from our whole party.

A good trip that was worth the full...

A good trip that was worth the full day if you have it to spare. It would be quite tedious if the car was full so I recommend doing this as a 'private' drive The trip to the desert dunes was the highlight and quite an experience. The driver gives you a choice of excitement from 'Weeee!' to death defying. We stuck with the Weee but still held our breath a few times. Even though it is a car ride, wear closed shoes as the desert sands are damn hot where we picnic for lunch in the desert. Not a feast by any means, just a snack. Have to use your imagination for the 'Camel' Rock visit, but the ride there was fun. The heritage village was quite interesting. As it was off season (hot!) we had the place to ourselves which made it easy to stroll and explore. It would probably be less pleasant in peak times as the exhibits are inside small rooms with even smaller doors. The water in the tour picture is not an exotic oasis destination. The reality is an almost empty dam roughly cut into the hillside, not noteworthy. Although you pass through Oman immigration (for 22km each way) there appeared to be an understanding that visas were not required for the Hatta visit (we had Australian passports) Expect the obligatory stop at the toilet break (right outside a 'hard sell' gift shop) on the way. Overall; an interesting day with some fun experiences but not a 'must do' while in Dubai

This was supposed to be a private tour. While we did have our own car and driver, we traveled in a caravan for almost the entire trip with two other cars/groups. We toured Hatta in a group, the dam/reservoir as a group and all ate lunch in a group. Had we been alone, we would not have stayed as long at some places as we ended up having to stay. Disappointing not to be able to control the pace of a "private" tour. Lunch was a bit uninspiring. We still give the day trip three stars for the scenery, informative guide (Mustafa), camel close-ups and a little bit of dune bashing.

Interesting excursion into desert beyond Dubai. Little visible wildlife. For those interested in birds, stop off at wetlands on outskirts of Dubai, where flamingoes flock. This was a highlight.
