Do Eat Better Experience
The tourist will more specifically taste some of the following specialties in our Genoa Food Tours (according to products availability and the type of tour booked): • Pasta with Pesto: classic basil Pesto sauce was born in Genoa. You will have the chance to taste the authentic recipe made of local fresh basil and pine nuts, we ensure it will be the most delicious you'll ever have! • Savoury pastries: thousands pastries in the world, but come taste our best ones into an old Sciamadda (a typical  "takeaway" from the  beginning of 20thCentury). • Focaccia with Cheese: 2 very thin layers of dough filled with "Stracchino", (a typical soft cheese from Recco, a small village next to Genoa). You will watch it in the making! • Fried Calamari: Genoa is a harbor city with a traditional seafood-oriented cuisine. Our tender fried squids will melt in your mouth! • Stockfish: cooked with pine nuts, potatoes and "Taggiasca" olives, a special recipe from Genoa! • Anchovies: freshly fished, traditionally one of the most famous fish of our Seas. • Frisceu: small fried pancake with vegetables. Best for entrees and appetizers. • Pizza: our gourmet pizza, soft and thick, flavoured with fresh local toppings. You will taste the best pizza in Genoa! • Bruschetta: a grilled slice of bread, covered with many different toppings, such as "Pesto", certainly the most tasty and easy to find in Genoa. Perfect with an ice-cold beer. • Farinata: a delicious chickpea pancake cooked in a flaming oven. The best one is soft in the center with a lighty crisp coating. • Caffè and dessert: Italian coffee rituals expect you ending your meal with an Espresso coffee, you might like to taste instead our Panera, a delicious creamy semifreddo flavoured with coffee.

Great experience

Fantastic tour. Meeting place was a bit confusing to find, but when we'd managed to locate our guide the tour got off to a great start with fresh seafood from a small kiosk right in the harbor. We sampled local delicacies in places we would never have found out ourselves, and our guide was great company too. This was one of the best tours ever, highly recommend!

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to leave this food tour hungry, so that alone is worth it. However, you will also experience some of the best food of your life and learn so much about Genoa in the process. Valeria was an incredible tour guide; such an interesting person with a real passion for her hometown. We would absolutely love to visit Genoa and when we do, we wouldn't hesitate to book another food tour through this company. If you're on the fence about booking, just do it! This was one of the best tours we ever did!

Top tour from our trip, in my opinion

The group contacted us the day before with excellent instructions how to find our guide after coming off the ship. The guide was on time, walked at a casual pace. His tour commentary was casual - not too caught up in dates and persons, trying to cram as much history as possible into the time. Spoke more on the culture, what the locals enjoyed, some of the history, and the FOOOOD. We picked the pizza, focaccia lunch tour since our daughter would best like that one. My tip - skip eating breakfast, or eat only a light breakfast. We ate ourselves silly. Small walk - light snack - small walk - sit down restaurant with gourmet pizza, 3 kinds. Small walk - streetside deli for another trial of local fare. Small walk - another restaurant with another type of amazing pizza. Small walk - GELATO! The guide was very aware of the insane-hot temperatures. Kept the water coming to the table as well as soda if we wanted one, we don't drink alcohol, but wine was available. The buildings offered "European AC" which means they were cooler than outside, but not the sub-Arctic temps we US citizens usually see. It was a very pleasant way to while away 3.5 hours and we got to see some beautiful buildings in between eating ourselves silly.

Somehow, we'd totally thought we booked some kind of cooking class through Do Eat Better, so when we arrived in Genoa and realized we'd be eating our way through the city while we walked, we were initially skeptical. But we quickly learned that this was a really unique, delicious way to see the sights from a local's perspective. Our guide was really, really incredible. Not only did she share with us facts about the landmarks and local traditions, but she pointed out personal stories (like the building her family used to manage a restaurant in, for example, or where she attended school on the top floor of a beautiful building). In the best way possible, we felt like we had met a friend who was guiding us through their hometown. Our tour was just us (my husband and me) and a family of four from our cruise ship. It was perfect. Pasta. Focaccia. Wine. Gelato. Show up HUNGRY.

An amazing tour with just the best tour guide Marina. We were promised food and they outdid themselves. Everything we had was excellent. Marina made sure we received anything we wanted. She managed our group of 9 wonderfully. And the food vendors were excellent. Would not hesitate to recommend this tour and give it a 10/10! Fantastic value for the amount paid.

Marina did our food tour in Genoa and was simply the best!! She walked us around to some of the places offering all the local specialties! We tasted Everything! She explained the history and significance of these incredible dishes and mixed in local history and interesting facts about the town as we walked. Totally enjoyed the experience w Marina and left totally full and with great understanding of the local food. She even stopped off at a great market so we could buy things to take home with us!! 6 stars if I could!!

Delicious Way to try regional food in Genoa!!

Our tour on Sun, 9/2, 2018 was a fabulous and so delicious way of trying the different types of food in Genoa! Marina was our guide and we stopped at about 5 different restaurants/ street stands that allowed us to try focaccia, prepared many different ways, anchovies, shrimp & calamari !! It was incredibly delicious! We had wine, and if you didn't feel like wine, you could have a soft drink or water. Marina was very sweet and knowledgeable about the area of Genoa that she spoke about. She was also well versed in all the types of regional foods of Genoa and a very social person to talk to! It was a wonderful day, spending about 3 1/2 hours eating delicious Italian food! Thank you Marina!
