Overview

Swap bustling Hanoi for the Vietnamese countryside on an easy half-day bike ride, departing the capital in the afternoon. Cross over the Long Bien Bridge and pedal alongside the Red River for a look at village life. You’ll taste fruit from plantations on Red River Island, learn about contemporary art at a local estate, view ceramics in the pottery village of Quang Ba, and stop at West Lake for coffee or tea at sunset. Numbers are limited to 12 people for a small-group experience with your informative guide.
  • Half-day countryside bike tour from Hanoi
  • Cross the Red River via the century-old Long Bien Bridge
  • Drop in to a local artist’s home to admire Vietnamese fine arts
  • Explore the densely cultivated farmland of Red River Island
  • Visit a pottery-making village and see how ceramics are made
  • Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea at West Lake during sunset
  • Small-group tour limited to 12 people for personalized attention
In the afternoon, make your way to a central meeting point in Hanoi where you’ll be outfitted with bicycle and helmet, then follow your guide through the Old Quarter and the outskirts of the city. Take a scenic route over back roads at a leisurely pace and cross the cantilevered architectural wonder of Long Bien Bridge — built in 1902 by Gustave Eiffel — which leads into the Vietnamese countryside.

Get a glimpse of rural life and local villagers as you pedal along the banks of the Red River en route to the estate of a renowned artist. Here, stop to admire the installations as you learn about contemporary trends in the country’s fine art. Then continue alongside the banana plantations and vegetable farms of Red River Island, stopping for photo ops and tastings along the way.

On arrival in Quang Ba, your guide points out stacks of pottery awaiting bicycle transport into Hanoi. Cycle past floating houses and flower fields en route to West Lake, the city’s biggest lake, located in the center of Hanoi. Enjoy the colors of sunset while sipping a complimentary cup of coffee or green tea before you return by bike to the starting point.

Our local guide, Ching, was fantastic! His laid back style riding with flip-flops as an example and his insight into the background and layout of this particular location was great. With the help of the bike shop's owner and technician, the ride was definitely an adventure dodging cars, motor bikes and pedestrians navigating through the city and into the countryside!! What a fun way to see this part of the city and how people live!

Great way to escape the tourist areas and go on a bike ride to see some local surroundings. The guide was great and informative. Be prepared to ride through some traffic and offroad terrain.

It was an amazing bike ride experience in the city of Hanoi and its outskirts. Friends and I got an exclusive tour since there were no one else. The excellent tour guide took us outside of the city to see an more in depth Hanoi area that is not normally seen. Very informative, but be prepared to ride through crowded streets to rough back roads.

Great tour, our guide San was personable, shared many interesting insights along the way, and spoke very good English. All of the stops highlighted the local people and economy, it was not a sales pitch. Biking in the traffic at the start and end was very fun, within 10 minutes ride you are in the country side.

This was a great experience for my husband and me. Our tour guide's name was Lucky, and he was great. Very knowledgeable, kind, and passionate about his culture. I thought getting the chance to navigate what I consider to be crazy traffic was fun. We also got to see a bit of Hanoi that isn't typically accessible to tourists if you just stay around the main tourist areas. We saw Bonsai trees and where the local people keep them. We also saw a temple and were lucky that there was a ceremony taking place, which enhanced the experience. We also went to a local artist's house/ gallery, which was very interesting. We then drove through the agricultural area and got to see a lot of the crops and some locals farming, which was cool. We visited a ceramics company and had a beer to end the tour. For my husband and I, this was a highlight for us. The tour was very authentic and didn't feel too manufactured. I might advise using a face cover, as you're driving through a lot of different areas and inhaling all kinds of stuff, so this might help with breathing. Also it is a quite long ride and not necessarily always on sidewalks/ streets or the most solid ground, so be prepared for that. For us, this was a bonus, but we are comfortable on bikes.

Loved this tour. So nice to ride out of Hanoi and experince a more gentle side. Easy riding away from the crazy Hanoi traffic. Great guides who took us to places not normally frequented by mainstream tourists. A visit to a famous artist's home was a hightlight. Highly recommend this tour.

Emma was fantastic! Very professional, informative and her english was perfect! We seemed to get off the actual described itinerary but that was ok and she did a great job explaining various facts about Hanoi and the 'countryside' we saw. The bike seats should be upgraded hardcore ten speed type and there should be a warning that you will be riding around in the craziness that is Hanoi motorbike/car/pedestrian traffic.

We had an excellent tour with our very knowledgable guide. My husband dreads large group activities but this was small, only 4 people, and consequently we felt we had a personal tour of the rural aspects of Hanoi city. Cycling through a maze of gardens and back streets you would never dare go on your own was a wonderful experience and I would go again tomorrow with pleasure !

It was great to discover the nature and the places where ordinary vietnamese live in out of hectic places of downtown. I could feel so free while I was riding a bike. Plus, the tour guide was so kind, told many interesting stories of Hanoi and lead the safe bike tour. You could see, feel, and experience which you will hardly discover alone traveling.
