Overview

Cruising the salt-marsh ecosystem in search of dolphins is a popular activity in Hilton Head, but unlike other similar tours, this dolphin and nature tour uses small boats so wildlife isn’t scared away easily. Sail along the water from Shelter Cove Marina, down Broad Creek, and into Calibogue Sound, while keeping a lookout for Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, birds, and other animals that call the area home.
  • This dolphin and nature tour gets you off the beach and on the water
  • Hilton Head Island is known to have active populations of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins
  • Small boats don’t intimidate the wildlife, making sightings common
  • Easily fit this tour into your plans with multiple departure times offered

Captain Wells Fulton is a native of HHI. His experience and knowledge of the island was informative. He was up front that we are guests of the water, not the other way around, so they can't guarantee a dolphin sighting. On our way out we saw many bird species, learned about oysters (not going to "spoil" it for you lol) and watched two eagles battle overhead. I'm from Ohio and we have a good population of eagles but that's the first time I saw eagles antangonize each other midair. We were fortunate on the way back to spot a dolphin a few times, then a baby appeared alongside and we got to watch them swim around us (very close to the boat) for about 20 minutes. I traveled in mid-March 2019. Even if I didn't see dolphins it was a great trip.
