Be ready for morning pickup at your Krakow hotel, and drive to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum and Memorial, where more than an estimated one million Jews and other targeted populations were murdered during World War II. The former Nazi concentration and extermination camp is now preserved as a memento of Europe's darkest chapter.

Skip the entrance lines with a timed ticket, and connect with your guide for a tour of the camp including prisoner barracks, the unloading ramp, and ruins of a gas chamber and crematorium. Spend some time at Auschwitz I, the former SS administrative center, or at Auschwitz II-Birkenau, where most of the murders took place (depending on option selected). After this sobering visit, take a break for reflection and tuck into a provided boxed lunch.

In the afternoon, explore the mesmerizing underground world of the Wieliczka Salt Mine. Be prepared for a steep climb down several hundred steps as you descend into the tunnels and caverns of one of the world’s oldest salt mines. Admire sculptures carved out of salt rock and see mysterious saline lakes during your guided visit. Return to the surface via an elevator, and relax on the return drive to your Krakow hotel in the evening.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau
The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim, less than 70 km from Krakow, lies on the grounds of the former Nazi German concentration camp. The main camp KL Auschwitz was created in the mid-1940s, in the nearby suburbs of Oswiecim. A year later the German Nazis established the second part of the camp Auschwitz (II) - Birkenau which became the largest extermination centre for European Jews. It is the most recognizable symbol of the Holocaust and human genocide in the world. The Memorial Site is an area of almost 200 ha, over 150 buildings, and about 300 ruins, including remains of gas chambers and crematoria destroyed by the Germans. The trip includes permanent exhibitions, original buildings of the main Auschwitz camp and the most important buildings of the Auschwitz (II) - Birkenau camp.
Duration: 3 hours
Admission Ticket Included
Stop At:
Wieliczka Salt Mine
We predict a long break about 60 to 90 minutes for lunch. In the winter, from November to the end of February, this break is reduced to about 30-45 minutes due to the mine closing earlier. Depending on the order of the visits the lunch break can be in the town of Wieliczka near the Salt Mine, or near the Auschwitz Museum in Oświęcim. The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the most recognizable tourist attractions in Poland. About 1 million tourists visit every year. The origins of the mine date back to the Middle Ages. In the 16th century, the Wieliczka Salt Mine was the most profitable enterprise in Europe. Profits from salt extraction in the times of Casimir the Great constituted 30% of the entire kingdom's income. Visiting Wieliczka takes about two and a half hours.
Duration: 3 hours
Admission Ticket Not Included
Stop At:
Auschwitz II Historical Gate
In the tour option Wieliczka Salt Mine & Birkenau you will skip the entrance to the Auschwitz I Museum for an extended visit of the Auschwitz II Birkenau concentration camp. You will have about 2h to explore the original buildings and different exhibitions. You can use the guidebook as a map to plan your visit and choose what you wish to see. Among others, you can visit the Birkenau ramp, the crematoria ruins, prisoner living barracks, and the prisoners' sauna where you can observe the personal photographs of the people that perished in the gas chambers.

Amazing tour! Our guide/driver was great. We accidentally got lost and missed our time at Auschwitz and everyone was really accommodating and got us onto a later group.

Michael was our fearless driver who drove us to and from Krakow. He was very organized, even though the other groups that were with us were not (they were late ~20 minutes, which delayed our tour). He kept us updated on the time schedule. A great experience visiting a very somber place. I highly recommend it.

A haunting visit to Auschwitz that feel everyone needs to see and hear so we never forget. Followed by a tour of the Salt mine that takes you deep underground to the many caverns and monuments in this iconic site. Be warned it’s a long day but does mean you make the best of the time available if not got a lot of time. Joseph, our driver did a great job Shepard I got us to both venues and making sure we got the most out of the day.

Great experience

This tour was excellent from the very beginning. The driver was brilliant very professional and even told us interesting facts and places of interest whilst driving to and from locations. The lunch that was provided was basic but still tasted good. The tour guides at both places were very informative and shared lots of knowledge with us. It was a long day we were picked up at 9am and dropped back off at 7pm but it was well worth it. If you go in the summer like we did it is worth taking hats etc as auschwitz 2 is very open and if it is sunny there isnt much shade. An emotional experience and a must when visiting Krakow. I would definately recommend this tour

Driver was very nice and car(minibus) was spotless and very comfortable, camps are about 1.5 hrs out of Kraków.. the weather on the day was horrible so be advised. Lots of walking and paths are very uneven and covered in puddles , on the day was sleet rain all day, very cold so wear warm clothes and proper shoes not runners if the weather is going to be bad. Paths are paved with large puddles Our driver (Peter) had umbrellas at hand 🙏🏻. Birkenau is ALL outdoors. But weather added to the experience Guide was excellent, approx 5 mins drive between the two locations Salt mine was about 1hr from camps and we had about 1 hour to have a break before tour... lots of walking again .. and steps .. most down though... fabulous place . If you’re claustrophobic ask before taking tour !!! Overall a great day out .. worn out walking but a bucket list item ticked. Thanks to our driver again Highly recommended trip as this is or split over 2 days (Picked up at 8am back around 19:00 )
