At the rental shop in South Lake Tahoe, you’ll be fitted for your boots, snowshoes, and poles by the staff. When booking, you have your choice of a 1-, 2- or 3-day rental, so you can keep your equipment for the amount of time that fits your stay in the mountains. If you need additional gear, you can purchase items such as gloves, hats, and goggles, and also rent jackets, pants, and helmets.
When you’re suited up, you’re free to explore the area however you wish. The staff at the rental shop can provide some tips. Perhaps hit Heavenly’s 3 miles (5 kilometers) of groomed trails for views of Lake Tahoe, or visit Sierra-at-Tahoe’s network of groomed trails. Snowshoeing can be as leisurely or as exhilarating as you make it, depending on how fast you want to walk and whether you go uphill. The best part is, you don’t have to pay expensive lift ticket prices to enjoy this snowy paradise on a pair of snowshoes.
At the end of your rental period, just return your equipment to the shop. (Note: if you don't need or want boots or poles, you may rent only the snowshoes.)
