We were unfortunate with weather no-one's fault and so many of the planned stops couldn't take place. When I asked if we could stay longer in other stops the reply was surly and negative. The driver remarked how she had to get back for a certain time to pick up her children from school and we felt really rushed! despite booking and paying for a full day this was half-day in reality four hours. The sights were pretty given the weather but the driver really spoiled the day. As we were so rushed we didn't get time to stop for lunch and so had to stop at a take-out of her choice where the staff were incredibly rude. They were annoyed when I tried to speak in French despite having to speak the language when ordering items with French names such as Croissants! and the driver seemed unhappy about having us eat in her car despite no stop for food. At one point we were left in a dreary town where most shops were closed and she drove off for a period of time and we got lost trying to find her at the pick-up point as she wasn't where she said she would be and was obviously off running some personal errands! She was generally abrupt and not warm in the slightest. We had a much better day with a tour on the previous day with a different company so do some research the other company was also much cheaper. Oh and she added on extra charges for picking us up at our hotel per person! despite this apparently being included in the booking. I would recommend avoiding this tour.
Our guide was Roslyn sp? who was very good.
Our tour was to begin about 11 AM but did not leave until 1 PM as other guests were on a cruise ship which was late coming in to port.
Roslyn took us to Sacre Coeur while we waited and provided information on Martinique.
We too were cruising and were concerned that we get back in time for our departure. Roslyn assured us that we would be back in time and we were.
Martinique is beautiful and Roslyn provided good commentary, information and background on the French Departments and life on Martinique.
This was an off the beaten tourist route tour, and I loved it. Our guide was able to share the island by sharing his experience on Martinique compared to his experiences living on other Caribbean islands. This provided insight into the culture and daily life of the island's residents. Also, the small villages were a treat.
We were looking forward to a wonderful day exploring Southern Martinique. I had read all the reviews on Viator that said how great this tour was. We were sorely disappointed. This was a 5 hour tour. First of all, the bus was late because it had a mechanical problem. We were supposed to leave at 9:00 am, but didn't actually leave until almost 9:30 am. Second, our tour guide Leah, while she seemed very nice, was unknowledgeable about her island. Her accent was thick so we had a hard time understanding her. Many questions were asked, to which her response was I'm not sure. We made 3 stops - first at an potters village - we were there for 20 minutes. We were wandering around looking in the different shops, and luckily Leah was with us when we entered a potter's shop. We were hoping to see the potter actually make something, but that would not have happened if we had not asked through Leah. Back to the bus. Then we stopped at this village with a beautiful white sand beach. There was nothing special about this beach, and the sand was certainly not white. More brown and grainy than white. We live in Clearwater, Florida United States so we know what white sand looks like. We had about an hour at this location. There were so many rocks in the water, it made walking in the water very hard. We only stayed in the water for 5 minutes. There was really not much to look at in the village other than the church. Back to the bus. Then we went to a location with a memorial about the slave ship that went down. This was very moving and I'm glad we stopped there 10 minute stop. Back to the bus. We then went to a rum distillery. Again, unless you were interested in trying the rum, there was nothing to do, although the scenery was pretty. To sum this up, we spent about 4 hours in the bus, waiting for a silent tour guide to provide us some type of information that never came. It was certainly not worth what we paid for it, and will never take this tour again.
This tour was disappointing at best. The meeting with the guide, Sharee, was on time but the vehicle we were in had a terrible sound system with more high pitched squeals that we could count throughout the trip, Our first stop was 30 minutes at a pottery village. It might have been worthwhile if we had seen people working at their craft but there were none. Products available for sale at the village were low quality and quite cheaply made and presented. This place was a waste of time. The 2nd stop was at the beach at Les Anses D'Arlet. It was a nice beach area but if one did not wish to go into the water there was really nothing to see/do of interest for the 45 minutes we were there. The third stop was at a local market and the people working there were friendly. Most of the market was focused on fruits and vegetables. We purchased some spices that we can't wait to try at home. The fourth stop was at the Dizac Memorial for 10 minutes. The story told at this place was sad but interesting. The last stop was the Trois Riveres Distillery where we sampled many types of rum and bought a bottle to bring home. The tour was worth about half of what we paid and I hope Viator refunds a portion of what we paid.
disappointed with the guide Lea, not able to speak clearly and loud enough, and communicate. She did so personal concern, but did not perform well..........the sites were ok......the time spent in some sites was not worth the effort....one stop at the market place was a bad stop in that there were not enough restrooms, and we tourists had to wait in one line........the tour guide was not good for this trip.....no explanations for making of rum at the distllery........beach stop needed more time available.......ron kerbes 818 645-0403 in ventura calif writing this review 1 week after being there in Martinique
Also at start of tour, no large sign was held up and meeting place designation should be better presented
