Why Travelers Choose This Tour

With this VIP tour, be among the first visitors of the day inside the Met.
On the morning of your tour, make your way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the eastern edge of Central Park. The Met ranks among the most prestigious museums in the world, among the likes of the British Museum, the Louvre, and the Vatican Museums. The proof is in the numbers: over six million visitors flock to the Met each year, making it the city’s most visited tourist attraction. And you get to explore its galleries before the museum is open to the public.

Meet your guide—an employee of the Met—near the entrance and head directly inside. See highlights of the permanent collection such as the Egyptian Temple of Dendur, Tiffany glass, and revered masterpieces by the Old Masters. Other notable works include Roman frescos, Greek statues, and modern pieces. Throughout the tour, there is time to snap photos of your favorite works.

After in-depth commentary about the exhibits and the museum’s history, you can leave the museum—just try not to look too smug as you pass the long line of people waiting to get inside.

Want to see more? You can stick around to explore the Met on your own with the included EmptyMet ticket that not only gets you same-day admission to the Met, but also the Met Breuer and the Met Cloisters.

Viator VIPs feature travel experiences not typically available to the general public — from behind-the-scenes access to private viewings and VIP service — at many of the world’s top attractions, often with no lines and no crowds. Viator VIP tours are not available from other 3rd-party online sellers.

1. Tour guide spent 15 of out 90 minutes lecturing on history of MET, to begin our tour. 2. Later, she spent another 5 minutes showing us where the old entrance to the MET had been. This tour cost over $2 per minute per person. So for my wife and I we paid $80 to hear about history of MET and its former entrance. 3. Meaningless 15 minutes in Oceana section, etc. But maybe we were the only two not at all interested in the temporary ceiling. 4. Only Egypt artifact shown was temple Dendera, at very end of ancient Egypt. No one ever mentions the obelisk just outside the building. Maybe the US should give it back. Sad, very sad. Great museum, horrible tour. In hind sight, would only have done if free.
A Delightful way to View The Met

To walk to exhibits in many areas of the museum without crowds and hear the stories of collection pieces without surrounding noise was such a joyous gift. We loved the experience.
Pricey but worth it

I had been to the met a few times before the EmptyMet Tour. From those few times I found it difficult to recall the experience. The EmptyMet tour is unforgettable from the outstanding docent and her information to the incredible exhibits. I feel I know what the Met has to offer now and will look forward to going back with renewed interest. A real bonus to the tour was being able to go to three special exhibits and the rooftop immediately after. We beat the crowds and left with a lifetime of memories.

If you are able to buy a ticket to Empty Met, then do it! It is an amazing experience. I had never been to the MET before. After the tour, when the museum was open to the public I realized what a treat the Empty Met was. You must go!
Wow! A must see

Plan to spend more than a few hours at the Met if you want to experience most of the exhibits. A must see experience.

We loved the tour of the Met before it opened. It’s a little rushed because you only have 1.5 hours but our guide was terrific and we learned so much. A great way to see the Met without the crowds. FYI - you get two days of free access to the Met and all the annexes (including the cloisters) so plan it when you’ll be around nyc for a few days after.

We were so excited for this tour, looking forward to a unique experience. Our tour guide was a Columbia Univ professor and very knowledgable and accomplished. However, we missed at least half of what she said. She was not miked and although I questioned her about this, she assured me I would be able to hear her. She talked while on the move and with her back to everyone, it was impossible to hear her. At $175.00 a person, this was quite disappointing. The next day, we toured the 9/11 memorial and.the guide was miked. Museum should do likewise.
