  • Day trip from Rome to Assisi and Orvieto
  • See the breathtakingly beautiful Orvieto Cathedral
  • Enjoy lunch at a restaurant on the shores of Lake Trasimeno
  • Spend your afternoon in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town of Assisi in Umbria
  • Explore Basilica di San Francesco and the Convent of Santa Chiara
  • Stop in the town of Santa Maria degli Angeli to see a 9th-century basilica where St Francis of Assisi worshipped
Your day trip from Rome to Orvieto and Assisi starts as you leave the city by coach, heading north along the River Tiber toward the region of Umbria, a picturesque piece of central Italy that neighbors Tuscany. After an approximate 1.5-hour drive, arrive in Orvieto, a hill town that seems to rise dramatically out of the volcanic rock it’s perched on and is known for its long history dating back to the Etruscans.
Explore town on foot, enjoying the Italian charm and passing by many churches, particularly Orvieto Cathedral, a Gothic structure that dates back to the late 1200s and is noted for its stained glass, sculptures and mosaics.
Back on your coach, continue across the rolling landscapes toward Lake Trasimeno, where you’ll stop for lunch. Then head to Assisi, a World Heritage–listed town famed for being the birthplace of St Francis of Assisi, a patron saint of Italy and one of the most legendary figures in religious history.
Take a walking tour of town to see sites related to St Francis’ life, including the stall where he is thought to have been born, his former home and the place where he vowed to dedicate his life to the church. You’ll also learn about Assisi’s other hometown saint, St Clare, one of St Francis’ followers. Visit both the Convent of Santa Chiara, named for her, and the Basilica di San Francesco, dedicated to St Francis, plus see other Assisi sights like Piazza del Comune, Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, the town hall and the Roman Temple of Minerva.
Return to your coach to start the drive from Assisi to Rome, stopping on the way in Santa Maria degli Angeli to visit its 9th-century basilica where St Francis is said to have worshipped. Your day trip ends when you arrive back in Rome.

Good, but needs changes

My mom and I went in May. It was a good tour, but they need to make changes to it in my opinion. Too much time was wasted waiting on people. They also do not have a bathroom break scheduled in between destinations like other tours. It took us about 3 hours to get back to Rome and no bathroom break. The lunch is not that great, and I think they should either get rid of it, or make it better. The tour guide was nice, but not too informative.
Great tours of two historic cities

The tour was well organized and a great way to visit two of Italy's historic cities. This is a long 13 hour excursion from Rome - but well worth it. Both cities were very busy (Easter holiday week) but there was enough time it see each city's historic sites. Orvieto's cathedral and interior paintings were special. Assisi required a great deal of walking to see it's historic sites - but well worth it. The design of the Basilica of St Francis's two story exterior & it's interior painted frescoes were also special The driver & tour guide were very professional and made this a great excursion from Rome.

Very long day, 13 hours with more than half on the bus. Lunch included was worst we have had on many other tours. Bus driver was never helpful in assisting on or off bus. Guide on board was mute most of the time. Local guide in Assisi was fantastic! I would not recommend this tour.

Our guide Silvia was really personable and interesting, she made the day a wonderful one for us. The sights we saw, beautiful Orvieto and the Duomo and then memorable Assisi and visiting the holiest of places (after the Vatican) and the Porziuncola we knew it was very special! It was along day but so memorable and worthwhile, we will remember it forever! Congratulations to Silvia for her patience and happy personality and to the team of drivers, we really appreciated your efforts🤩

This day trip from Rome was well worth it. It ended up being a 12 hour trip since the tour was very thorough. Our tour guide, Silvia was very professional and very mindful of the needs of the group members. I will definitely recommend this trip. We'll worth it.
Charming Orvieto and Over the Top Assisi

The morning in Orvieto was enjoyable. Would have been nice to have been given more information about the history and area. Lunch was a typical tour lunch, unremarkable. Assisi is now over the top as a tourist attraction. Carousel in the midst of a holy place? Good guide, just too many stories and and too long an experience. Trust me, Assisi was better when I was there 49 years ago with my mother. Maybe more about the area and not so many folk tales about dear Francis. I suspect he would be appalled. The coach was comfortable, the guide was pleasant but could have provided much more information about the area and its history.
Excellent day out

Superb visit despite the weather. Great driver in dreadful conditions. Guides were informative, friendly and helpful. Both Orvieto and Assisi are fascinating places of natural and historical beauty.

The tour was great, the guides were knowledgable and the driver and bus were excellent. My couple of comments comment is that in my opinion we would have had a better trip with a little more free time in Assisi and skipping the restaurant stop. I would suggest going to Assisi first and allowing for more free time plus lunch at Assisi. Orvieto was nice but we were before most stores opened so it was much of a waste of time. By going to Assisi first and eliminating the lunch stop at the out of the way restaurant (which wasn’t that good!) we would have easily an extra hour in Assisi and have more productive time in Orvieto. Great tour!
