Why Travelers Choose This Tour
Get a budget-friendly Colosseum and Forum tour with skip-the-line entry and hotel pickup.
Your tour begins with a morning or afternoon pickup (depending on option chosen) from your central Rome hotel by your private guide. Set out to explore Rome’s historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, starting with a tour of the mighty Colosseum. Using your skip-the-line tickets, gain priority admission to the grand amphitheater and marvel at the spectacular 60,000-seat arena. As you admire the impressively preserved ruins, listen as your guide brings the Colosseum back to life, telling stories of ancient Roman emperors, gladiator games, and wild beast fights. Continue to the Roman Forum, the grand centerpiece of ancient Rome, where the remarkably preserved temples, basilicas, and public squares offer a fascinating glimpse into Roman life. While you’re there, hear the story of the Lapis Niger, an ancient Latin text housed in the base of one of the columns in the Forum, and visit the Temple of the Vestal Virgins, once home to the virgin priests of Vesta. Finally, climb Palatine Hill while learning of the mythological origins of Rome, and enjoy spectacular views over the Eternal City.

Private Colosseum and Roman Forum Tour with Hotel Pick-up and Drop-off
, Jun 2019
The Drop-off service was terrible. The guide was desperately trying to book a cab to take us back to hotel. We waited >30minutes in the hot sun. The Drop-off service should not even be offered as part of the package if it is not all pre-arranged which what we paid for. A small refund of 15 Euros was offered. But this is no compensation for the long wait of >30min in the hot sun after walking 3 hours during the tour. Extremely displeased.
Marco was on time for hotel pickup. He was very knowledgeable about the area’s archeological history as well as the human history of the area and its peoples. It was well worth the time and money to have Marco as our guide.
Yes, a private tour is expensive, but the amount of knowledge and stories you'll hear customized to your interest vs. trying to simply visit on your own is night and day. Not to mention the time you'll save gliding past long lines. Our tour guide, Simone, is an archaeologist and was a perfect fit for my Roman history nerd husband who has always dreamed of traveling to Rome and seeing the sites in an in-depth way. Simone kept our 12 year old engaged for three hours as well (though she was pretty tired after three hours in the sun). My one bit of advice if traveling during the summer is bring water. Both gift shops were sold out when we were there so we bought from the illegal vendors outside (with kind warning from our guide that we might be ticketed if we do so). The only constructive feedback I have for Viator is that this should not be a pick-up/drop off tour for groups of more than 3 now that Uber is nearly gone from Rome. We spent the first 15 minutes trying to find a cab that would take 5 (and finally gave up and took two cabs). Just tell us to meet you at X point and our group of 4 can fit into one cab and get there on our own.
Our guide picked us up from where we were staying and took us to the Colosseum. She was great about adjusting to the pace of the tour to accommodate guests with mobility challenges. Highly recommend this tour.
Alessia Rinaldi with Eyes of Rome gave us Roman History that was exciting, informative, and fun.
The lines were wrapped around the Colosseum. Alessia had our tickets in hand and we had a feeling we were at DIsney World with Fast Passes in our possession. We did not wait for 2 hours to enter - but were inside within 10 minutes. Her explanation of history made us feel as if a Gladiator, lion, tiger or any of the other animals that were housed at the colosseum would appear at any moment. Walking along the paths of the Roman Forum made the history of Cesar / The Gods come alive. She explained the restoration processes and the active excavations that are still in progress. Exceptional value. Thanks to Viator for searching for the best tours available for the visitor who plans their own vacations.
Tour of the Colosseum and Forum was amazing! Our tour guide Karin met us right outside of the Airbnb apartment we were staying at and taxi cabbed us to the Colosseum! The drop off after the tour was also included. Once we got to the Colosseum we were able to skip in front of the already long line! Karin was very knowledgeable and engaging. We learned so much! Our tween and teenager also enjoyed it as well. Thank you Karin for the fantastic tour!!
the guide (azzurra) was good, had knoledge of the history and the monuments. but it is better to start this kind of tours with a little introduction of the city and the roman history. we asked her to take pictures, but non of it were good, needs to work on its photo skills
10 of us traveled for a sporting for a sporting event and decided on the private Colosseum tour. We were fortunate to get Marco as our guide (dont know 2nd name). Sometimes you get tours and you know the information shared is scripted which over time can come across as disinterested. Not with Marco!!
He was him back in Rome after doing a dig in Tehran, his job is archaeology and historical ruins and history behind them. Wow, did he know his stuff and kept it relevant and interesting throughout. Even when he was not able to take us into the Forum due to the strong winds, he was able to take us to a separate historical church and spend 45-minutes there taking us through this history including a visit to the underground crypt.
The 3-hours just flew by and everyone stated it was a great experience
It makes no sense to me that people spend so much money to get to Italy and then go cheap on the experiences that they went there to have. Our private tour made Rome so much more enjoyable! We were picked up at our hotel by Serena from Eyes of Rome. Admittedly it was January so crowds were not bad, but we just walked right into everything as if we were the only ones there. Serena was full of enthusiasm and knew so much about the city and its history and sites. We had a wonderful experience. I was traveling with my parents (age 77) and she was so accommodating and considerate of them. We've had other good experiences with Eyes of Rome and Viator. I plan to use them again.
