Your day trip begins at Shanghai Hongqiao Train Station, where you'll board the train to Suzhou (your round-trip ticket will be delivered to your hotel, in downtown Shanghai, a day before your tour).
When you arrive in Suzhou, meet your private guide and start your exploration of the city at Lion Grove Garden, one of the city's four World Heritage–listed gardens. With a history of more than 650 years, Lion Grove Garden is known for its labyrinth-like grotto of rocks, which some say resemble lions.
Next, continue to your second attraction, Humble Administrator's Garden (aka Zhouzheng Garden), often considered to be the best in southern China. Dating back to the 12th century, this site was once the home of a Tang dynasty scholar. Enjoy time here to soak in all the scenery, including the jumble of bridges, pavilions, pools, mazes, and islands, as well as 48 different structures and more than 20 ancient trees.
Then enjoy a lunch of traditional Chinese cuisine before visiting Pingjiang Road for a walk and a boat ride. Explore the shops and Song dynasty houses that line the street before hopping on a small boat for a ride along the waterways of Suzhou, which give the city its nickname, 'Venice of the East.'
Your time in Suzhou comes to an end as you're transferred back to the train station for the express train ride back to Shanghai.
