Ports

  • Port Of Skagway, Port of, Skagway, AK 99840, USA

Gorgeous landscapes, potential wildlife sightings, and lots of scenic stops for photographs— what could make for a more perfect day while your ship is docked at Skagway port? Your full-day shore excursion to the Yukon territory by minibus travels north along Klondike Highway, a route that parallels the 1898 Gold Rush Trail, as you make way to the US/Canadian border. Keep your eyes peeled for possible wildlife sightings, including Dall sheep, mountain goats, moose, bears, and caribou. All along the route are photo stops including the 'Welcome to Alaska' sign at the White Pass Summit and the sub-alpine Tormented Valley.

Inside Canada, wind through a northern boreal forest for spectacular views of Bove Island, Tutshi Lake, and Tagish Lake. Break for a photo stop at the Yukon border and then continue to Lake Bennett. Snap photos of the ‘World's Smallest Desert’ and Emerald Lake.

Arrive at the Caribou Crossing Trading Post and dig into hearty fare, Yukon style, which includes chicken with barbecue sauce, a baked potato, coleslaw, dinner rolls, donuts, and coffee (vegan/gluten-free option of lentil curry is available). Now that you’re warmed up, head inside the Museum of Yukon Natural History that houses impressive wildlife exhibits, from Ice Age recreated specimens to animal species from the arctic and sub-arctic regions of Alaska and the Yukon. You can also visit the dogsledding camp area and see the huskies and adorable puppies. There is also a gift shop with Yukon souvenirs and nice restrooms. After time at Caribou Crossing, board your transport and relax on the return to Skagway port.

Please note: All passengers must have a valid passport.

Best Tour Ever!!

My friends and I booked this tour instead of the fabled train tour. Guess what? We are so happy we did. We were able to stop along the way and take awesome pictures! Our tour guide was phenomenal and he quite the photographer. The foliage was spectacular. I saw tons of Doll Sheep with binoculars, of course. The food was okay. The Carcross desert is something to see. When I go back to Alaska, I might even do this again! Highly recommended for anyone.

Some of the most beautiful sights you will ever see!

Awesome tour! Our guide Brook totally rocked! She was able to spot teeny tiny little white dots on the cliffs while driving, pull over and inform us that those little dots were actually mountain goats! Seriously! My husbands telephoto lens on his camera confirmed it! Wow! Traveling on the Klondike highway through the Yukon Territory was an experience I will never forget. It is impossible to take a bad picture... every where you turn is more and more beauty, and a knowledge that you are seeing something that a ridiculously few number of people ever witness. Caribou crossing was fun, I highly recommend taking the dog sledding option... have I mentioned the puppies?!!! To much cuteness for words! As I said before our guide Brook was great. She made sure everyone got their picture taken at the Welcome to Alaska sign and well as the Yukon sign and anywhere else you wanted a picture taken. I highly recommend taking this tour with this tour company.

One of the Best

This tour was fantastic. Unlike the train, which has limited stopping opportunities for pictures, our small bus driver did not have similar constraints. When an opportunity presented itself - we stopped! The narrative was timely and provided good information. The entire area is specatular but the Yukon portion of the trip was out of this world! Lunch was adequate but we were not there for the food. An awesome tour and one I would highly recommend.

The Best Shore Excursion

Our guide on this excursion was the very best. I wish I could remember his name! He was very knowledgeable about the area and kept up a running commentary on the entire trip. I believe this tour was much better than taking the train because we were able to get out of the van and take pictures along the way. The small group was much better than a large tour bus.

The trip was very nice and Candace did a wonderful job telling us about the views we saw. We were taken aback, however, when she told us that we should tip her $10 per person. If she should get $10 extra, you should include it in the price and give it to her and then request no tips.
