Departure Time

12:00 PM
Discover what the Gold Rush was like on this 2-hour gold-panning tour from Skagway. After hotel pickup, head to Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp, located at the base of Alaska’s White Pass, beside a waterfall.

Upon arrival, fuel up with an alfresco buffet feast in the forest, fare that includes wild, Alaskan-caught salmon grilled over an alder-wood fire. Then, browse through authentic exhibits of Liarsville’s history in the Gold Rush–era trail camp.

Learn about the origin of Liarsville’s name, and hear some of the tall tales written by journalists who ventured to Alaska during the Gold Rush. Check out the historic bordello and the laundry tents for glimpses of antiques and vintage clothing left behind by the miners and the ladies of the night.

Inside the Hippodrome, a cast of 'sourdoughs' and 'dance hall girls' enacts hilarious melodrama and a poem reading for your entertainment. Later on, snap a photo with one of the dance hall girls or the camp's beloved dog mascot, an Alaskan malamute.

Time to pan for gold! Learn the art of finding this precious metal before you’re let loose in the Liarsville gold fields on your own. After you've made your fortune, make a stop at the Fancy Goods store to pick up souvenirs. Enjoy complimentary cookies and apple cider before you’re driven back to your Skagway hotel.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp
At the foot of the White Pass, nestled beside a waterfall, discover Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp and Salmon Bake. Liarsville was named for the journalists dispatched to Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush who fabricated tall-tales from this very location. Your Liarsville experience begins with an all-you-can-eat alfresco feast in the forest that includes wild, Alaskan-caught salmon, freshly grilled over an alder wood fire, Chilkoot Chicken, Alyeska au gratin potatoes, Liarsville Rice Medley, Prospector Pete's Baked Beans, and a robust selection of other sides, salads and beverages. Beer and wine are available for purchase. Vegetarian or gluten free? There's plenty to tempt your palate! And, just when you think you've had enough—bring on the blueberry cake for dessert! Come back for seconds, or thirds, while a local entertainer sets a festive mood with Alaskan folk music. After your meal, mosey on over to our gold rush era trail camp. Here, you'll enjoy the waterfall and the authentic exhibits of Liarsville. In the Hippodrome a cast of sourdoughs and dance hall girls will entertain you with a hilarious melodrama and a poem by the "Bard of the North," Robert Service. You'll learn the art of gold panning, then test your new skills in the Liarsville gold fields, where you are guaranteed to find that precious metal that drove people wild with gold fever! Once you've made your fortune, take time to wander through the camp, browse for souvenirs in the Fancy Goods Gift Shop, and visit the bordello and laundry tents to view the antiques and vintage clothing left behind by the miners and ladies of the evening. Help yourself to complimentary cookies and apple cider and have your picture taken with one of the dance hall girls.

The camp was nice, meal pretty good, entertainment was pretty good. Gold panning kind of cheesy. I thought we were actually gonna be panning out of a river but they had tables set up to do it with little fake gold flecks in it.

It was a lot of fun. The bus driver was very informative on the drive up and back. The camp was where it actually was during the gold rush. We have a very good buffet lunch with grilled salmon. There was entertainment fitting the time period and then we got to learn how to pan for gold.

Thank you for the opportunity to share out experiences in Skagway. We had our 2 great-granddaughters with us. And the tour to Liarsville was the high light. We enjoyed every minute of it. The Alaska Salmon bake was so awesome and the girls and us enjoyed the gold panning so much. We will not quickly forget such a wonderful time. Thank you and keep it going.

We really enjoyed this activity after we found our bus. We forgot to ask what bus to watch for at the get on area so we were a little nervous that we might miss our connection. Our bus driver gave us a lot of local information on the way to the site. The meal was well organized. The cast of the show had a lot of energy and was entertaining.
