After meeting your private guide at your St. Petersburg hotel, enjoy a high-speed hydrofoil ride along the River Neva to the Peterhof. Have your camera ready as your hydrofoil passes highlights such as the Peter and Paul Fortress, Hermitage, and the Spit of Vasilyevsky Island. As you travel, let your guide know if there’s anything you want to see more or less of — your tour is private, so the itinerary is flexible.

On arrival, head inside (own expense) Peterhof with your guide for a tour of the palace and fountain-studded gardens, often nicknamed the ‘Russian Versailles.’ As you walk, hear the history of the palace, and learn about the royals who helped shape it, including Peter the Great and the Empress Elizabeth.

Stroll around the famous fountains and water features (operational May to September only) — 176 of them in all — and marvel at the showpiece; the spectacular Grand Cascade, set around a gold fountain of Samson. Indulge your sense of fun and get drenched at the famous joke fountains (May to September only), and admire the statues and flowerbeds.

If you wish, take a tour of the Grand Palace and explore the other royal houses in the grounds, used as summer hideaways by the royals. See Alexandria Palace and Park; Marly Palace with its orchards, grotto and fishponds; and stroll around the waterfront Monplaisir, a favorite retreat of Peter of Great.

Before your tour ends, enjoy free time for lunch (own expense) at a traditional waterside Russian pancake restaurant or a snack (own expense) at a cafe — the choice is yours.

Finally, make your way back to your hotel, or a central drop-off location of your choosing, by foot and metro train with your guide. Your tour then concludes when your guide departs.

4 of us 3 adults and 1 teenage boy were on the tour. Our tour guide, Andrew, was great and a good story-teller. The palace and garden of Peterhof were magnificent and impressive. We were happy about the tour and had a great day. However, we were not happy about the arrangement from the tour company. It's the first time for us to visit St. Petersburg/Russia and we didn't know and I admit that I need to bear certain responsibility that the river was still frozen. We booked the tour with hydrofoils and were charged more for taking hydrofoils option. However, only 2 days before the tour, we were told that we couldn't reach Peterhof via hydrofoils because the river was still frozen. The tour company apologized and made it sound like it's out of their control due to the weather. But when we arrived in St. Petersburg, we were told by locals that the hydrofoils never start before 15 April as the weather is still always cold in St. Petersburg in March/early April. That means, the tour company is selling something that cannot be fulfilled and the tour package with hydrofoils is more expensive than a normal one to go there by car. We received only EUR28.4 refund in total for 3 adults and 1 child. You do the maths and will understand the trick behind. This is a matter of integrity to me.

TOUR OPERATOR COMMENT: We deeply apologize about the fact that the river was still frozen, sometimes it starts in early April, sometimes later, it all depends on weather conditions. We informed you about the impossibility to take a hydrofoil some days before the tour and gave you an option of a minivan with a partial refund. You accepted this option, so we don't see what we did wrong. If this was not an option for you and hydrofoil was the priority for you you could ask us and we would do a full refund. As for the difference in price, here is the math: the return tickets for the hydrofoil costs 1500 rubles per person, so total 6000 rubles for 4 people. The minivan costs 4000 rubles. The difference is 2000 rubles, or 28.4 euros that we refunded you. We are sorry to hear this spoiled your tour with us to the point where you felt a 1-star review was warranted and hope in the future you will give us a chance to assist on on-site to ensure you may leave happy.
