Depart from your centrally located Stockholm hotel in a comfortable vehicle and begin your cultural journey to the heart of Sweden’s captivating countryside. Stop first to view the ancient Viking causeway of Täby and admire the runic stones that once comprised a Viking parliament. Return to the minivan and venture to Granby, a quaint and archaic settlement that dates back to 400 AD; decipher the ancient inscriptions upon the Granbyhällen, a colossal rock decorated with swirling runes, then revitalize with lunch at a local eatery (own expense).

Next, continue through the verdant beauty of the Lunda region to Sigtuna, an ancient settlement founded in the 10th century. Stroll the atmospheric streets of Sweden’s oldest town and browse bespoke boutiques for special souvenirs.

Return to the minivan and travel through more lush landscapes to Gamla Uppsala, a small village replete with royal burial mounts and relics that attest to the richness of Viking culture. See some of Sweden’s most significant scared sites then enjoy some relaxed independent exploration in new Uppsala, where the country’s oldest Cathedral resides.

Finally, return to your minivan and relax during the journey back to Stockholm.

Viking and Runic Tour

We enjoyed our guide and he was very informative. The tour included some driving in the countryside outside of Stockholm which was enjoyable. Perhaps more time could have been spent Uppsala.

Our guide was so great and incredibly knowledgable about everything. There was never a dull moment within the history lesson on the tour about the vikings.

History tour, not Vikings tour

Our guide, Urban, was a very good tour guide and very knowledgeable on Nordic history. But other than seeing Rune stones, the tour is very light on Vikings and very heavy on general history of Sweden and neighboring countries. If the tour was called Sweden History, my rating would be a 4 or 5, but I was expecting much more color on Vikings history.

This is a wonderful tour with many interesting stops. Urban was our guide and he was very helpful and knowledgeable. He took us to several rune stone sights that we never would have located without him. He was very considerate and the tour covered great interesting places.

Covered a lot of ground!

There is no way I could have possibly learned this much and seen so much stuff in a day on my own. Most of the locations we went to were fascinating and things that you would only know of if you were an insider. Some of the Viking ruins we saw were almost unmarked- amazing for ruins that are 1500 years old! The scale of what means "old" is completely different in Sweden as it is for us from the States. Our tour guide, Urban, covered everything in an interesting way that tied everything together well. He has a deep understand of the history and could answer any questions I had, and went deeper into into areas as needed. And the coffee break ("Ficka") spot was a memorable gem in the Swedish countryside. A great value, and I plan to take the tour again when I return with my family in tow next year.

Highlight of our trip!

Our guide was Urban—he has such a comprehensive knowledge of Swedish and Viking history that he loves to share. The tour van was comfortable and there were only three of us on the tour our day. It was wonderful having such a small group which was lucky for us. We made numerous stops to see old Viking areas— near a lake, in a farmyard- definitely places a big tour bus wouldn’t take you. We also toured the interiors of various ancient churches- which was wonderful with a guide who could point out many things we wouldn’t have known or noticed. I would highly recommend this tour if you have a free day during a Stockholm visit

Our guide, Urban, was above and beyond all our expectations. His knowledge and willingness to share it with all passengers was superb. We enjoyed every minute of the trip: from the moment Urban picked us up from the hotel to the moment of saying goodbye at the location, that was not included into the trip, but we asked Urban if he could drop us somewhere near a public transportation station, so we may go over there. And Urban just drove us to the place. We can't appreciate more his job. He showed us not only history of Sweden and Vikings but also showed heartwarming respect to the customers.I would definitely recommend the Viking History Day Trip from Stockholm including Upsala to everyone who is interested in Scandinavian history. And especially if the guide will be Urban.

Done in a Van where the driver was also the Guide. Wow dangerous if I may say to drive and and talk about history at same time. The Guide was average, hated his monotonous tone of speaking - made ihistory so boring Way over priced $164 for one person!
