Try your hand at ‘Shodo,’ also known as Japanese calligraphy, during this lesson taught by a professional calligraphy artist. Ever wanted to have your name written out in beautiful, artistic, Japanese script? Here’s your chance to learn more about Japanese culture while gaining a unique souvenir.
Head to the class location in central Tokyo to meet professional ‘Shodo’ master (and your instructor) Yuriko Hoshino. In addition to her calligraphy skills, Yuriko is highly-acclaimed graphic designer whose work has been used for a variety of video games, manga, corporate logos and branding campaigns.
Start your lesson by learning the basic techniques involved in calligraphy before learning how to write your own name. As you try out the Shodo characters, you’ll also learn about the meaning behind each ‘kanji’ (Japanese alphabet) character from Yuriko. At the end of your lesson you’ll have a one-of-a-kind souvenir and a newfound appreciation for the art of Japanese calligraphy.
Want to further personalize your handmade calligraphy souvenir? Select the ‘data included’ option to receive the digital version of your calligraphy name, allowing you to have it printed on t-shirts, coffee mugs, and more.
