Walk through the pretty Piazza Unità d’Italia to reach the old Jewish Ghetto. See the charming shops lining the streets today, offering antiques and collectibles. Visit the Carlo and Vera Wagner Museum of the Jewish Community, where the exhibits include documents, books, and objects of Jewish ritual art related to the history of Jewish life in Trieste.

Stroll along San Nicolò to reach the Libreria Antiquaria (Antique Bookstore) that was once operated by Umberto Saba, an important 19th-century Italian writer from Trieste. See the famous sweets shop, La Bomboniera, which was founded in 1836 by a family of Hungarian Jews. Visit Trieste's synagogue, built at the beginning of the 19th century.

Next, hop into a private minibus to travel just outside the city to visit the rice factory in San Sabba that was turned into an extermination camp during World War II – the only one in Italy.
