Immerse yourself in the history of African-American culture in the United States during this half-day history excursion in the Nation’s Capital. Follow the path of the first African-Americans at Jamestown through the Civil Rights movement, checking out key sites like Howard University, the vibrant neighborhood of LeDriot Park, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the M.L.K. Memorial, plus much more.
Wanted to see the African American Museum and thought this would be an easy way to get in and see DC. Well, it turned out to be so much more. Sandra our guide is a fountain of knowledge on the very important American History of Slavery and black history. I urge all Caucasians such as my friend and myself to join this tour to see DC and America in its true light. Loved seeing the MLK Memorial and hearing about the symbolism in the monument itself and more. ... DON'T MISS IT.
The attractions we saw were great, but Jamal, our tour guide, was awesome. I have gained more insight into our history, learned more about Washington, D. C. ,and now have an interest in more information. This is the first tour I’ve been on that I could not wait for the guide to start talking. Our driver was also very good and worked well with Jamal.
Our tour was so fascinating and filled with history that I was not aware of about the roles of members of Washington’s African-American community throughout history. Jamal was the best guide ever and I would encourage everyone to request having him lead their tours. He has so much information and so much love of the subject matter that you can’t help but come away inspired and wanting to learn More.
Our tour guide Jammal was extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. He really gave us a great education if the African American experience in Washington DC. I truly appreciate the information he shared with us. Thank you Jammal.
The Tour was very good and both informative and entertaining. Our tour guide Jamal was excellent! He had a good grasp of both the historical and cultural significance of the African American experience in the District; including the history of Slavery in Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland.
The Smithsonian AAHCM was amazing! We Highly recommend this tour.
This was the best history and city tour I have experienced in DC, It was worth the cost. The bus was comfortable and wwll air condition. The driver was friendly and knew his route. The tour guide was very impressive, friendly and knowlegeble about all aspects of the DC monuments, museums and lots of detailed history. And the greatest highlight of the tour was the amazing visits to the MLK monument, and the AfricanAmerican history museum that were heart wrenching and so much history.
This Tour is Totally Awesome.
Everyone should take this tour, its a must. You will be so enlightened on history that has been left out of school books.
a lot of information, too much for a child to absorb, the crowds were overwhelming, they stood in one spot bottle necking, the flow of people. it was hard to proceed. they need to find a way to move the people along together, perhaps a guided tour.
I would recommend this tour which I took on August 17th to everyone. First class.
Now that that's out of the way, the tour director left much to be desired. First, she showed up at 9:32 when the tour was to depart at 9:30. Of course, she also had to take 10 minutes to get organized. Next, she did not use any sound equipment but instead merely talked in a conversational voice for most of the tour. This might have been fine for the first three rows of the bus but not for the majority of us. There were many comments from the folks around me that they just gave up listening to her. And finally, as a former university history professor, I could tell that many of her facts were not entirely accurate meaning that she hasn't performed due diligence in learning all the details.
Again, I will highly recommend this tour to acquaintances but I just hope they get a different guide.
