The Mt. Hutt ski field is a fully-equipped ski resort with a wide range of trails for all skiers and snowboarders, from beginner runs at the base of the mountain to double black diamond trails running down the mountain’s South Face. You can also go sledding or do some sightseeing; take the chairlift up to Summit Six, which, at about 6,850 feet (2,088 meters) high, has stunning views over the Canterbury Plains.
When the slopes are closed, there’s still plenty to do. Mt. Hutt has a range of hiking tracks, from the easy Rakaia Gorge Walkway to the challenging Scotts Saddle track, and recreational activities like jet boating, hot-air ballooning, fishing, and golf are all available. And you can don your swimsuit and soak in the Mt. Hutt hot tub, the highest-altitude hot tub in New Zealand.
