Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Tours

Known as America’s only “mountain zoo,” the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is home to hundreds of animals spread scenically out on 140 acres. It is particularly well known for its large herd of giraffes, one of the biggest in the world. Placed at 6,800 feet in elevation, its unique mountainside location makes it suitable for large alpine habitats. Visits will find grizzly bears along with monkeys, hippos, tigers, birds, rhinos, and elephants, among others.

The zoo’s largest exhibit to date, “Encounter Africa,” is home to some of its largest animals and was completed in 2013. Other parts of the world including Australia, the African Rift Valley, and the Asian Highlands, also feature heavily. For a view of local wildlife, the Rocky Mountain Wildlife area is home to moose, otters, lynx, porcupines, and bald eagles. Aside from the animal habitats, the zoo offers hands-on experiences, tours, and events on a daily basis, as well as a carousel, local monument, and chair-lift sky ride which takes you up the mountain.
