How to Get There
Oyster Pond is on the island’s east coast, about a 10-minute drive north from Philipsburg, the capital of the Dutch side, and about a 30-minute drive west from Marigot, the capital of the French side.
When to Get There
he weather on the island is pleasant year-round, with July and August being the warmest months. Deals on hotels and flights may be found during the shoulder seasons of spring and fall. Visit from February to June when humpback whales pass by the island on their way north, or during Carnival, which is a pre-Lenten festival on the French side and a post-Easter festival on the Dutch side.
For History Buffs
If you are curious about the island’s unique history, visit the St. Maarten Museum in Phillipsburg, which is about a 5-minute walk from the Courthouse down Front Street. On display are Arawak pottery shards, artifacts and photos from the plantation era, as well as items excavated from the HMS Proselyte, a frigate that sank off Fort Amsterdam in 1801.
