The Basics

The Alcázar of Seville ranks among the most-visited complexes on the planet and is included on many sightseeing tours in Seville (including Game of Thrones–themed tours). Aside from general admission tickets, which should be booked in advance, visitors have a few other options for touring the complex. It’s possible to book admission to the Royal Residence (Cuarto Real Alto) as part of an additional tour that often sells out early—it’s a good idea to book a guided tour of the complex or your entrance tickets ahead of time. Those with limited time to spend in the city can opt for a guided tour with skip-the-line access.

Awesome experience
Climbing the tower and the tour guide knowledge. Impressive architecture and ability of the people to build such colossal structure.

Alcazar of Seville Guided Tour with Skip the Line Ticket
Samael was a fabulous guide. He was so knowledgeable about the history of the Alcazar and the Andalusian region of Spain in general. We learned so much from him, and it added to the context of the visit and helped us enjoy it much more than we would have enjoyed it alone. He was punctual, friendly, and very engaging. Folks would take this tour!

Cathedral & Alcazar of Seville Guided Tour (Skip the Line)
Well the guide was really good but the group was heavy in Spanish speaker. There were very few English speakers so some information were lost in the language.

Alcazar of Seville Guided Tour with Skip the Line Ticket
Our guide was very nice and knowledgeable. Although the tour was reasonably priced it was unfortunate that we did not get to tour the garden with the guide (at least some main features) - the tour ended at the palace and we were left to enter the garden alone.

Seville Cathedral and Royal Alcazar Skip-the-Line Tickets
You really did get to go around the long line. If you're considering if it is worth it to get the tickets ahead of time, do it!

We are so glad that we did this tour. Carmen our guide was fabulous providing us with a great overview of all the key elements of the site. Alcazar itself was truly breathtaking and we loved every minute spent there. Well worth it!

Cathedral & Alcazar of Seville Guided Tour (Skip the Line)
Great way to see the top two sites in Seville. Tour is very informative. 3 hours is too long though and the tour guide spent too much time on small detail like the tiles or wall architecture instead of giving more general information about the history of the buildings etc.

Good, but too quick

Alcazar of Seville Skip-the-Line Guided Tour
The tour was good, but very quick. The tour guide spoke very fast and we quickly went from room to room. I would have preferred a slower pace. I had a hard time understanding the tour guide bc he spoke so fast and with an accent. Also not enough historic detail.

How to Get to Alcázar of Seville

The Alcázar of Seville is very centrally located near the Seville Cathedral. If you’re already in the city center, the easiest way to reach the palace is on foot. The Seville tram stops at the Archivo de Indias, located next to the palace.

When to Get There

As one of Seville’s most popular attractions, the Alcázar can get busy. Plan to visit first thing in the morning to explore and photograph the grounds on your own before most tour buses start to arrive. To enjoy the royal palace gardens at their most beautiful, plan your visit on a sunny day. The complex is closed on Christmas, Good Friday, and during the first six days in January.

Beneath the Alcázar

Not all of the Alcázar’s beauty is situated above ground—below the Patio del Crucero are the Banos de Dona Maria de Padilla, the beautiful and almost eerie underground cisterns that collect rainwater from above. It's said that the tanks were named after a beauty so ruthlessly pursued by Pedro I (often called Pedro the Cruel), who ordered much of the Alcázar's construction, that she disfigured herself with burning oil and became a nun.
