Your tour begins with a 10am pickup from your central Cádiz hotel by private vehicle. Soak up the scenery on the around 1.5-hour journey as you head inland and wind through the dramatic mountain peaks of the Sierra de Grazalema natural park.
Arrive at La Garganta Verde around 11.30am, a spectacular canyon carved out by the Arroyo del Pinar River, and take in the views from the El Arroyo de Bocaleones observation balcony. Then, set out on a thrilling 2-hour hike through the gorge, following a 1.5-mile (2.5 km) route along forested trails and dramatic rocky passageways, crossing over a river and looking up at the 1,300-foot (400 meter) high canyon walls. Look out for wildlife along the way, including goldfinches, stonechats, warblers, and one of Europe’s largest breeding colonies of griffon vultures.
At the end of your hike, head to the nearby village of Zahara de la Sierra, a picturesque spot with its white-painted houses and hilltop castle looking out over the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park below. You’ll have time to enjoy lunch (own expense) and explore the village, before setting out on the return journey to Cádiz.
Your tour ends with drop-off at your Cádiz hotel around 7pm.
Please note: the hike through Garganta Verde includes a river crossing and is not recommended for participants who are unable to swim.
