Then, hop inside a comfortable, air-conditioned minivan for yourjourney northward to Jinshanling. Along the way, hear all about this part of China’s UNESCO-listed wall, one of the most beautiful and least-crowded sections.
Rebuilt in the 16th century during the Ming dynasty, this restored segment snakes across the ridges of steep mountains for about 6.5 miles (10.5 kilometers). Its restored watchtowers and the stark mountains ensure wonderful views in both directions, making it a favorite with hikers and photographers.
On arrival, ride the cable car (additional cost) to the ramparts and enjoy a hike along the eastern battlements. Admire the stunning landscapes and stop to inspect various architectural features and watchtowers. View the historical inscriptions on each of the unique towers and see the brick engravings, carved by long-ago laborers.
Following your roughly 3.7-mile (6-kilometer) hike, descend and continue to a local restaurant for a Chinese lunch. Then, return to Beijing where your tour ends at the original starting point.

It was my second time to use Viator service, and everything was so great! My Mom, myself and her friends wanted to visit remote and quiet part of the wall this time, so that I chose Jinshanling Great wall tour, and tour operator told us that the Jinshanling Great wall was closed temporarily and it was switched to Simatai section of Great Wall now. I could say that The view was amazing and impressive. This section of Simatai Great Wall got lots of original stones, well the hiking was a little bit hard and challenging, but it was less crowded and we saw only around 60 people at the Great wall during the tour. Our guide, Paul, was great, informative and friendly.Highly recommended!
Great communication in lead up as Jinshanling section of the wall was closed and we changed to Simatai section. Pick up was on time but minibus was extremely small and cramped for the number of people on tour. For what is a lengthy journey 2 hours each way the size of vehicle used and the space between each row of seats was ridiculous. I could not sit normally and had to sit knees up in order to fit in the space available and I am 5ft9. Everyone on the tour was in a similar predicament.
Aside from this the tour itself was fine, great food for lunch and the Great Wall was amazing. Only feedback for this section of the Wall was that there is a chairlift and our guide gave us the option to walk up and chairlift down or vice versa but the chairlift cost is not included. This was at minimal cost so just add it on to the tour cost rather than asking people to pay extra on the day
