Ride a vintage-style sidecar to the uncrowded Great Wall at Huanghuacheng on a 9.5-hour trip from Beijing. Settle inside your 1930s-inspired chariot with a motorcyclist chauffeur-guide, and travel to this less-visited, Ming-era section of wall. Then, make a steep ascent on foot for a scenic picnic lunch and stroll along the UNESCO-protected edifice. Your tour includes a stop at the Silver Mountain Pagoda Forest, and use of a helmet.
  • Full-day Huanghuacheng Great Wall sidecar trip from Beijing
  • Ride a 1930s-style sidecar to the uncrowded Huanghuacheng section of wall
  • Climb up to the ramparts and enjoy a scenic picnic lunch
  • Stroll along the Ming-era wall and absorb the magnificent views
  • See the pagodas at the Silver Mountain Pagoda Forest on route
  • Round-trip sidecar travel, helmet, and central Beijing hotel pickup and drop-off included
  • Motorcyclist driver-guide with one passenger per sidecar
Begin with a pickup from your central Beijing hotel, meeting your sidecar driver-guide at about 9:30am.

After an introduction to what’s ahead and a safety briefing, don your helmet, and settle inside the 1930s-style sidecar. Only one passenger is allowed to sit in this mini-chariot due to the relatively long drive.

When you’re ready, hear the engine rev, and enjoy the ride as you head north from Beijing. Coast for 30 minutes along a freeway, before snaking up a hillside road for another 30, and arriving at your first stop: the Silver Mountain Pagoda Forest.

This off-the-main-tourist-track gem boasts a waterfall and 18 pagodas, some dating from the 12th century. See these medieval Buddhist structures, set against the deep-green wooded mountains, and learn how and why they were built.

From here, continue in your sidecar for about 45 minutes, traveling through hills before arriving at the foot of the Great Wall at Huanghuacheng. Here, make the steep, roughly 45-minute ascent on foot with your guide. Take photos of the stellar views of the wall weaving across the mountains and forests, and sit down to a tasty picnic lunch.

As you eat, absorb the scenery and peace, and after about an hour, take a stroll on the partly restored wall, which dates back to China’s Ming dynasty period between 1348 and 1644.

After descending, return to your sidecar, and ride back to your central Beijing hotel, ending your trip with a drop-off at about 7pm.
