Giant Panda Breeding Research Base (Xiongmao Jidi)
Spend your morning with the cutest, yet impressive, creatures in China! 4 hours inside the Panda Center, tour through the baby and adult panda areas and visit the red panda section to see these small adorable animals
This is a great activity that you can easily fit in one afternoon, and the Panda parc is anyway a must do if you go to Chengdu.
The tour proposed is very convenient with the hotel pickup and drop off (thx to our driver mr. Pan).
A special note for the guide ms. Hayley that was assigned by chance. Perfect english, very friendly, helpful and knowlegable, she made the tour a better experience.
The four of us really enjoyed this outing. Be aware that you are volunteering to help at the rescue center - so wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting wet and/or dirty. There was plenty of time to see all of the pandas, and two opportunities to feed them by hand. The only thing I wish we could have done was actually pet them while feeding, but overall I'd recommend this as a good day trip!
Kate was my english speaking guide, she was excellent.
The tour was excellent. Kate communicated well and I learnt a lot about pandas as well as China.
At the panda base, Kate ensured I could see the pandas and had the best viewing for my photos. Go in the morning before it gets busy.
Highly recommended !
We only had 1 day in Chengdu and I wanted to see the Great Pandas up close and so we chose the private half day tour with feeding. Our lovely guide for the day was Hayley and she met us nice and early in our hotel. On the way to the Research Centre she was very well prepared and she gave us tons of information about Chengdu along with a map and tips for what to see and how to get there on our own if we had the time. Hayley stayed with us the whole of the day, sorting out our entrance, taking us to the locker rooms to get into our overalls for the day, escorting us round the site to our Pandas that we were looking after for the day, lunch in the staff canteen and back to our car. This made everything so simple as her English was brilliant whereas the staff at the centre struggled a little and our Chinese is non existent. The actual content for the day was so much better than just observing the Pandas as a normal visitor would. We got to clean out their shelters and go into their enclosures to replace the old food with fresh bamboo. We made the cake treats for them and then got to hand feed them twice; once in the morning and again in the afternoon. Although on each occasion, you only get to feed them them 3 pieces of carrot and it lasts no more than a minute - you are face to face with one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet and when he looks into your eyes, it is just heart melting. The experience in my opinion was unmissable. Main Tip for the day: The pandas fall asleep around lunch time and if it is hot and sunny - they take shelter somewhere and you cant see them. So make sure that when you get your free time to walk around before lunch - you make the most of watching them all eating and playing as you may not get the opportunity again if the day gets too hot.At the end of the day Hayley was also able to find out from the driver that he had no further customers after us and so were able to make a private deal to transfer us to the station for our bullet train to our next destination. This really saved us some time having to sort out a taxi with our hotel(which was Chinese and the receptionists could only communicate through a translation app) so this made the end of our day stress free. Thanks to Hayley for making our trip so enjoyable.
Jenny, our guide, arrived on time and showed us to a clean and comfortable VW Touran.
In about 30 minutes we arrived at the Breeding Center where the car park was empty
Jenny explained that since this was after the National Holiday and it was better to get there early to beat the traffic / queues which we did not mind at all. Jenny took us around the park. It was very peaceful and tranquil inside. No queues at all as there seemed to be just a handful of people. We were very lucky.
Jenny also mentioned that the normal feeding time is between 8am to 9am so we did see a lot of the Pandas eating. We even saw Panda play fighting, and climbing trees. Managed to see the Red Pandas as well.
Jenny gave us a lot of information throughout the tour.
A great relaxing and enjoyable day. Definitely worth seeing the Pandas.
Thank you Jenny.
Tour guide Kate was exceptional: knowledgeable, accommodating and fluent in English. The driver, Mr. Jiang, was excellent at navigating the traffic out to the Panda Base with a clean, modern vehicle. We are world travelers, and this tour is not to be missed. Kate and Mr. Jiang were the "dream team." Thanks!
Our driver and guide were professional, efficient and friendly. GUIDE: Morley toured us around the Panda Breeding Centre very efficiently maximizing our time and managing our program to see everything without being impeded by crowds.
DRIVER: Mr Chen arrived at our hotel 1/2 hr early, identified himself and invited us to continue having our breakfast. This left us feeling secure all was set for the day.
In addition, both Morley and Mr Chen went out of their way to assist us with other travel details too - so generous and much appreciated.
TOUR SUMMARY: Aside from the travel details the number of pandas we saw was incredible .. an absolutely fantastic and memorable half day - highly, highly recommended
Worley was our guide for a trip to the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base. She is a knowledgeable and capable guide, and also a lovely and kind person! She picked us up from our hotel in Chengdu, took us to the park, walked us through the park for about two hours, then dropped us off back at our hotel. It was a pleasure to spend that time with her-- she expertly guided us around the park, and was clearly passionate about the pandas and her job. Her genuine excitement greatly enriched our own experience! She took us around the park efficiently but without rushing us-- she could sense when we wanted to linger and when we were ready to move on. She also helped us to easily navigate the crowds and find the best viewing angles. She was super knowledgable and clearly answered all of our questions, and was a pleasure to talk to! She even gave us great recommendations for things to do and see after our tour was over. We would highly recommend booking a tour with Worley-- she mentioned that in addition to panda tours, she also takes groups on cultural and food tours of Chengdu. We're sure that they would be just as great an experience as our tour!
