Overview

With fascinating history and culture, Mexico City is an exciting place to visit, but exploring one of the largest cities in the world can be overwhelming even for experienced travelers. Find the best of Mexico City using public transit with a local guide, on a full-day, small group tour that covers Aztec heritage, Mexican art, architecture, and food.
  • Mexico City tour by public transit
  • Small group for personal service
  • See colonial-era sites
  • Visit a food and produce market
  • Snacks and entrance fees included
  • Led by a local guide
Make your way to Mexico City’s Historic Center to meet a guide and small-group in a central location close to the zócolo. This tour begins at the beginning: learn about the legendary founding of Mexico City, Aztec culture and traditions, and the first contact between the Spaniards and the residents of Teotihuacan. Follow city streets to buildings that date back to the colonial period, and find out how life and religious practices changed under Spanish rule.

Leave Mexico City’s history behind, and hop the subway to one of the city’s most colorful markets. Visit a few local stalls to sample some regional foods (touring the market with a local guide is the perfect way to learn about the dazzling variety of snacks on display), and see the fresh, aromatic building blocks of Mexico City cuisine.

Continue to the Fine Arts Palace, or the Palacio de Bellas Artes, for a sweet treat and hot drink in an elegant architectural landmark. Find out how the building was transformed from a colonial-era convent to a cultural hub with Tiffany glass and sumptuous décor, then keep exploring on your own—the tour concludes at the Fine Arts Palace, close to the restaurants and sights of the Historic Center.

Our guide Alfonso (Poncho) was superb. Really good company, knowledgeable and a true ambassador for Mexico City. We now have a much clearer appreciation of the City’s history and the evolution of the Mexican people.

I joined a small group led by Ady and her colleague-in-training. It was brilliant, a lot of walking but we covered nearly all the major and attractions. They face us a lot of local advice, and had answers to our questions about history. I feel really lucky to have gotten them as our guides!!

This tour was indeed amazing! My guide Alfonso is very knowledgeable and considerate. Such value built into this tour - history, art, archaeology, and food! 700 years in 7 hours. I definitely recommend this tour for any visitor to Mexico City. It deserves a 5+ rating!

Mexico City Original Markets & Street Food Tour | Feb 2020
Our tour guide was Hash and I cannot say enough good things about him and the tour experience. He took us to three different markets and we saw various things that we never would have experienced had we not been with him on the tour! He delighted us in his choices for food samples along the way. He loved our questions and he was so genuine telling us of his background growing up and living in Mexico. This tour was the highlight of our trip to Mexico City.

Experience Mexico City: Teotihuacan Day-Trip & Dinner with the Locals | Feb 2020
Ulysses was an excellent guide, calm cool collected and in touch with & knowledgable of the local area because he’s a local, he also speaks excellent English. The tour is well-paced and informative. He offers information of the archeology without any bias - which is important regarding this land. He also offers a non-religious, but spiritual perspective too. There’s a cool little pit stop for local beers before visiting an obsidian craftsman’s home. Although this states “dinner with the locals” we never saw them, & they weren’t introduced to us, but nonetheless at that point in the night everyone in the group is hungry & it was nice to eat a local, quaint meal. We enjoyed the sites, lots of information as well as being able to explore a little further into the local area than you would be able to on your own. I was personally having a rough morning as a solo traveler & this tour brightened my day & was just what I needed to get out of the hustle & bustle of the city.

What we loved about this tour was the rich knowledge of our guide and his flexibility related to what the clients interest were. We especially liked the tour to the flower market and the butcher sections. It was very interesting trying chapulines (grasshopers) in the market.

One of the best days of my trip to Mexico!

Experience Mexico City: Teotihuacan Day-Trip & Dinner with the Locals | Aug 2019
I visited Mexico City for my 30th birthday and we were able to book this tour last minute with Urban Adventures after my morning tour fell through. Our tour guide (whose name I can’t remember) was so friendly and knowledgable - young, funny, long hair and spoke both English and Spanish. We started off meeting at the city’s center near MUMEDI. The meeting point was easy and accessible, then we all jumped in a van and headed to the ruins of Teotihuacan. From the start of the tour, until the very end, we were given lots of useful, interesting information about the temples and the different civilizations that inhabited the nearby regions. We also got the opportunity to climb both the Moon and Sun Pyramid - and the guide was nice enough to take people who didn’t want to walk up the stairs to other parts of the area in the meantime. After that, we were all escorted to a nearby home of a local artist, and given a tour of his craft, and allowed to sample a variety of tequilas. During this time we bought some souvenirs and learned more about local agriculture. Finally, we ended the trip with a homemade meal, and dined on delicious pozole blanco! What a delightful end to a long day! Would highly recommend this company!!!

Mexico City Original Markets & Street Food Tour | Aug 2019
While this was nominally a food tour, what you really get is a journey into the culture, people, and history behind some of the best and most interesting markets in the city. My guide Poncho was incredible and I got to meet some very friendly locals and try dishes catered to my interests as well as what the locals eat. Could not recommend it enough!
