Your private day trip starts with pickup in Naples, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi or Ravello, depending on option selected when booking. You’ll be driven to Mt Vesuvius, where you’ll meet your guide for the walk to the top of the volcano to visit the crater.
Part of the Campanian volcanic arc, Vesuvius features one large cone partially encircled by the steep rim of a caldera caused by the collapse of an earlier, much higher structure. The volcano is famous for its eruption in 79 AD that destroyed the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, as well as Herculaneum and other communities.
After lunch (own expense), head to Pompeii to explore the archaeological ruins, a World Heritage site. Discover what the city was like 2,000 years ago with a virtual reality headset that provides a 360-degree perspective of Pompeii as it once was. With a professional guide, walk into the ruins, stopping at different landmarks and sites to hear information and watch short ‘scenes’ in your headset. The typical 3-hour tour of Pompeii features 10 to 13 sites, depending on the pace of your guide and group.
Sites may include: The Temple of Apollo, the Basilica, the Forum, the Stabian Baths, the Thermopolium of Vetutius Placidus, the Luponar (brothel), the Garden of the Fugitives, the House of Menander, the Amphitheater, Via dell'Abbondanza, the Large Theater and Gladiator Barracks, a shop and a bakery. Audio commentary in the headset enhances the experience and is available in six languages.
Your day trip ends with return to your hotel.
