This is a great easy cycle tour. We were a group of seven staying about 30 minutes drive from Monopoli. The first challenge was parking. We were exceptionally lucky to find a space in the free car park at the dock a few metres from where we met the Taste and Go rep. There were not many spaces and it would be advisable to arrive early in case you need to go further afield.

The tour starts in Monopoli and provides background and history for the town. There are stop offs in a historic town square and at the main church. After the town, it is a short ride along the coast and then into olive grove country. The power-assisted bikes are easy to to get the hang of - none of us had used one before - and are useful for cruising along the country roads.

The main stop is at an olive mill. There might be several options but the one we visited was Sorrelle Barnaba, which is run by the three sisters, Barnaba. They have a great story. Three generation of their family have run the groves but until recently they had given up producing the oil. The sisters have returned to full manufacturing of ecological extra virgin olive oil. It is fascinating to hear how the oil is produced and what constitutes extra virgin. The tasting is good fun and informative.

This mill has a converted underground church in which olive oil used to be produced many years ago. This has been renovated and showcases lots of old machinery.

A long, relaxing tour back through quiet country roads brings you again to Monopoli. By early afternoon the town had become very busy making it more difficult to cycle along the narrow alleys.

Overall, an excellent tour. Our guide was first class - well-informed and engaging.
