Hi Vivian, thank you so much for reviewing Appellation Wine Tours. Great to hear you enjoyed our Central Otago Wine Tour (Boutique Wine Tour). It is indeed an honour to be able to show the great work of the winemakers of the wine regions, the incredible scenery and, our guides, also, are second to none! Thanks again and warm regards. Lise

Vineyard tour of the Gibston Valley

Our guide was excellent, very informative not only about the wines but also the surrounding area. We visited 4 vineyards ( one of which I had already been to when we did our own tour earlier). It would have been good to know in advance which vineyards we were visiting ( there are over 100) so that we could have visited other vineyards on our personal tour earlier. 2 of the vineyards we went to were excellent with describing the wines and an enthusiastic wine demonstrator. The other two vineyards were a bit rushed and not as informative. Each vineyard has a different feel so it is really a personal preference on what one likes. I did enjoy the group we had, very diverse and interesting people from all over the world. However I did not think a small group was going to be 12 people. It ended up being fine but was hoping for more of a personal experience. Overall I would recommend this tour.

Hi Lori, thank you very much for taking the time to review Appellation Wine Tours. Firstly, we're delighted you graded your guide as excellent. With regard to knowing which vineyards we go to prior, we change where we go to on a daily basis as, (as you mentioned, there are a large number to choose from) and we like to support as many as we can. We also allocate vineyards, based on special requests and ensuring a good mix of cellar doors. eg. we would not regard visiting wineries that are similar as value for money for our clients. We like to stay as flexible as we can, therefore we would hope that our clients let us know of any vineyards that they have previously visited when booking and we're also happy to advise where we're planning to go to and change as required. I'm glad you enjoyed the day with your fellow wine-tourers but very sorry that you felt the tour was not personal enough. We have always regarded 12 (maximum) clients as big enough for a social tour, yet small enough to be personal/interactive. Your comments have been taken on board. Lori, if you have an opportunity of touring with us again in the future, please do advise of previous wineries visited and we will tailor-make the tour for you. Kind regards. Lise

great wine - no shortage of variety!

This was a great trip to 4 wineries in the Central Otago region with lunch included at one stop. Actually at the lunch stop, you only get one glass of wine and don't try wines. The meal is a bit small but paired nicely with the wines. Our guide Maryann was very informative and nice. There are a lot of wines you try on the tour! A lot of variety in the wines and a lot of varieties in the wineries. The group is small enough that you get enough attention and can ask questions. Highly recommend if you have the time to do it!!

This was a fun wine tour. Our driver Gary did a fantastic job. He was funny and provided a lot of great information about the region. The wineries were beautiful and very non-pretentious. Found a new love for Pinot Gris today.

Tour was excellent. We stopped at 3 different vineyards + lunch at a vineyard with a glass of wine, all of which had a wide variety of wines to taste. Driver was incredibly informative and so nice! Group was maxed out at 12 people which was just the right amount. Thanks for a great tour!

Wonderful overview of Central Otago wines

Had a wonderful afternoon travelling around Central Otago. We were quite unimpressed with the first couple of wineries, but lunch was good, and the afternoon wineries were spectacular. We have visited wineries in regions all over the world, and if we went back would probably rent a car and make some appointments to be able to visit more exclusive wineries. The guide was very knowledgeable and overall it was a nice afternoon overview of the region.

A wonderful afternoon on this tour. Paul was so knowledgeable about local history, the region and wine! Each stop was excellent, with all cellar teams friendly and helpful and full of passion for their craft. Food platter was sensational at a stunning location. Not Pinot Noir drinkers, but the wineries were flexible and catered to the tastes of the group.

Visiting the locations of Great World Class Central Otago Pinot Wines

Our Tour Guide Martin was excellent and very informative of the local history, Gold Mining, Wine Makers, Wineries, etc. The quality of wines we were offered for tasting were very very good to the point we purchased more wine than we should have, who's counting. The great factor was we got to taste boutique wines from smaller vineyards who's wines are only available at the cellar door. Very special. All Hosts and Hostesses at the four vineyards we visited were very knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with. The only negative in my mind was the lunch Platter in winter could have had a bowl of Soup added ( something hot )
