Explore the beauty of Mildford Sound and Fiordland National Park on this full-day tour from Queenstown
Relax and enjoy the sites of Mildford Sound on a sightseeing cruise
After you’re picked up at your hotel, settle in aboard a comfortable coach with panoramic windows and begin your Milford Sound tour from Queenstown. This day trip departs the shore of Lake Wakatipu, situated against the jagged backdrop of the Remarkables mountain range, and makes a stop in Te Anau for morning tea (own expense).
On arrival at the World Heritage–listed Fiordland National Park, step off the coach at the Mirror Lakes. Snap photos of this natural roadside attraction before passing through the Hollyford Valley. Your coach then enters the Homer Tunnel, emerging above the Cleddau Valley, where you’ll follow a footbridge over the Cleddau River to the Chasm to view the river’s turbulent whirlpools.
Upon reaching Milford Sound, board the luxurious catamaran. Throughout the 1.5-hour sightseeing cruise, listen to expert commentary about the pristine environment and natural landmarks such as Mitre Peak. Rising dramatically to a height of 5,551 feet (1,692 meters) above sea level, it’s one of many towering cliffs carved by a massive glacier in the last ice age.
Pass cascading waterfalls, and search for birdlife and marine mammals including New Zealand fur seals in addition to penguins and pods of dolphins. Gourmet Buffet lunch is included on your cruise, before you’re returned by coach to your Queenstown hotel.
Excellent driver who was also the guide. Very well informed guide about New Zealand, it's short history, it's flora-fauna, it's business and economy. Scenery outstanding, they even arranged indian veg food as well. Overall excellent
Like everyone says it is a big day but absolutely worth the effort. The views along the way are just breathtaking and our bus driver Hamish was amazing. Giving us a guided tour the whole way as well as driving like a boss.
Our driver and tour guide Stu was great and I really enjoyed his commentary and stories. But of course the cruise was the highlight, especially when they took us almost underneath the Sterling waterfall! Would highly recommend this tour.
Sensational scenery from luxury Coach all the way from Queenstown to Milford Sound. Our driver Eric was a very caring and gentle man concerned about our well being with a vast amount of knowledge of the history of the region, couldn't have asked for a better driver. He allowed us various photo opportunities ( spectacular ) and I'm a Kiwi plus toilet stops along the way. We were offered various options subject to weather for returning back to Queenstown 1, with him on the Coach,2, direct fixed wing 14 seater plane 3, Helicopter direct flight to Queenstown 4, Helicopter flying up close to Glaciers and landing on the top of a mountain getting and experiencing really what being on top of the world is like. My Partner and I took option 4 an absolute sensational experience a must do for the bucket list. The trip on the Milford Sounds was another experience second to none, close and personal to our New Zealand Fur Seal ,Close up and under various Waterfalls both sides of the Sounds, right out to the Tasman Sea. being the middle of winter was very cold however the lunch they supplied on board was way beyond our expectations and very much appreciated ( Hot Food ) warmed us up, we were dressed appropriately. Mitre Peak was only visible some of the time, probably the most photographed Mountain in New Zealand. The Juicy company boat we were on and the crew were excellent, the commentary from the captain was exceptional and informative. This is a must do experience for any New Zealander and any visitor from all corners of the Globe to partake in. Just Do It !!!!!!!
My husband and I had a great time on the tour. The bus driver Stew was fantastic and had alot of information to share. The bus was comfortable and we only had 25 passengers on a big bus so we weren't squashed together. The cruise through Milford Sound was amazing!!! The crew were super friendly and the buffet lunch was delicious! Overall an excellent experience from being picked up from our hotel to being dropped off. Would definitely recommend Great Sights tours for going to Milford Sound!!
Would highly recommend this tour. Our bus driver Eric was a world of knowledge and make a long day very enjoyable - great sense of humour! Milford Sound tour was also informative and just enough time on the water to appreciate the extraordinary scenery. Picture perfect tour from start to finish!
This trip was the spirit of the our tour to New Zealand. A visit to Milford Sound is a must if one wants to feel the pristine and untouched beauty of the nature. New Zealand is one of the most recently inhabited land by the Homo Sapiens, and has, thence, preserved most of the nature in its original form.
About the service of the tour operator, they were extraordinarily cordial and felicitating.
The tour began at 7:30 am from our hotel in Queenstown and ended at about 8:00 pm at the same place. While Milford Sound was at a long distance from Queenstown, the long route offers amazing views of rich forests, springs, and fauna. The customised bus, offering panoramic views from the windows and roof, stopped at several places for sight-seeing. This made the whole journey even more interesting. The tour-guide was continuously briefing us about the area we were passing through, besides treating us in a really courteous and polite manner. Each member was given extraordinary importance with regards to his/her needs.
Finally, at Milford Sound, we boarded a cruise that was among the best embarking the harbor. At Cruise, we were served with food that met our dietary requirements mentioned in booking. To elaborate, we needed a Muslim Meal, and subsequently were served with Pulses, Rice and Fish, etc., that made us remember our food of the Indian Sub-continent. It was as if the food was prepared by some highly professional chef that took care of not only ingredients but also of the intricacies of its taste and presentation.
About the the Cruise, I would like to mention that the captain was acquainted with the techniques to make visiter amused and wonder. Taking the cruise closer to the waterfalls was really breath-taking and entertaining.
To conclude, Milford Sound is the heaven on the earth. It is a place where you meet nature in its unadulterated form.
This tour was a MUST-HAVE. I would definitely recommend this to my fellows and guests.
Thanks to the GreatSights for making our tour great!
