Devote a day to the ‘Sound of Music,’ and visit the filming locations from the iconic musical. Recorded in and around Salzburg, the film is famous for its scenic alpine settings, many of which you’ll see during the tour. Stop for photos at Schloss Leopoldskron and Hellbrunn Castle; see the meadow where Julie Andrews sang; visit St. Gilgen on the side of Lake Wolfgangsee; and admire the chapel where Maria von Trapp got married. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included.
Start your Sound of Music–themed day with a 10am pickup from your hotel in Salzburg. With your group on board, you’ll head into the center for a tour of the city’s main landmarks. See Schloss Leopoldskron, which doubled as the von Trapp family home, and have your camera ready to take a shot of the pavilion at Hellbrunn Castle.
From Salzburg, you’ll travel across the border with Germany to visit the famous picnic meadow where Julie Andrews sang “The Hills are Alive.” After a lunch break at a traditional Austrian inn, continue to Lake Wolfgang, which features in several scenes during the film.
One of the lake’s prettiest towns is St. Gilgen, also famous as the birthplace of Mozart’s mother. Hear how the opening scenes were shot in the village as you gaze over the Schafberg mountain, admiring its reflections in the lake.
Pass though more swathes of the Austrian Lake District on your way back to Salzburg, and enjoy one last stop at Mondsee before you finish. The picture-perfect village is home to the chapel where Maria and George von Trapp married.
After eight hours of sightseeing, your tour ends back at your Salzburg hotel.
