Great tour / bad shopping spot

Our guide was awesome and knowledgeable- that part was great . We were never contacted about where and when to meet - our hotel person spent 30 minutes doing that for us . The shopping spot chosen was really bad quality - a scam . The ‘blue ‘ amber earrings my friend bought didn’t change to blue in the brightest of sun ( they weren’t cheap ) and two friends bought amber and laminar bracelets and both lost a stone the 2 Nd day and one had the clasp break . Tour of SD recommend without that horrible experience.

I booked a Santo Domingo historic tour in two days in advance and called the company several times to arrange my transportation from hotel; I also emailed with no response until the day of with them apologizing for being unable to pick me up. I want a refund!!!

We only had 5 hours to tour the city and this is a perfect choice. We visited the zona colonial and many landmarks in the city followed by Columbus lighthouse and the 3 Eyes National Park (Parque Los Tres Ojos).

I have taken a lot of tours with Grey Line the subcontractor. I have not been disappointed with that company until this trip. The Catalina Island tour they provided was a dangerous nightmare. This was slightly better. The guide was knowledgeable. The tour was only ok. I have no idea why we had to drive for a half an hour to see the Blue Mall. I suppose they are proud of the high end designers that sell in their city. We weren't able to get down to the Columbus Palace. We wasted time in a kitschy souvenir place. When we went to Los Tres Ojos, the Grey Line tour guide left us with a local hanging around the park, who flirted and joked to hustle a tip. It was a lousy end to a mediocre tour.

Jose is a guide with a mission to pass on his abundant knowledge of Dominican history to his family of travelers. The tour covered some of the most important sites in Santo Domingo and Francis/Frank our driver was amazingly adept maneuvering through the city traffic. We thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon tour.

We were the only two people on the tour, so it was highly personalized. The caves were beautiful, learned a lot about the history of the city, and even the New City.

This was a great Tour. Our Guide JOSE and the driver were fantastic. They were entertaining with jokes etc but more importantly JOSE was very informative about the history (both colonial and continuing to the modern day). Definitely recommend this tour!
