Sunrise in Bali: Mount Batur Hiking and Coffee Plantation Tour

A great experience and well worth the early start. Our driver aryl was there on time and explained everything. Our guide wayan was excellent, very informative and helped us up the mountain. Reasonable level if fitness needed but very achievable. Wear good shoes (not sandles)

This tour is absolutely amazing! Highly recommend. Our local guide, Wayan was so patient and helpful. We had a pretty fit group, but there were still some challenging walkways and Wayan was always there to offer a hand. The view from the top at sunrise is totally worth the early morning wake up - it was one of the highlights of our trip! Don't miss out on this!

I recommend this tour. It was very enjoyable. We were well looked after and the sunrise was amazing.

For the price- I didn't think it was worth it. While it was nice to have a ride to and from the mountain, you don't really need a guide to take you up. The coffee plantation afterwards just seemed sad. The civet cats are in relatively small cages which just makes you think they are being force-fed coffee beans for the sake of production. Speaking of which, Luwak (Cat poop coffee) really doesn't taste different at all (to me) and is a wholly pretentious thing. I'd much rather support Organic fair trade coffee that has a history of ethical standards. If you rent a car/scooter yourself you can just hike it yourself by following the crowd up, pack a good breakfast and hike down. You don't need advanced knowledge to hike this mountain but I would call it a beginner-intermediate climb. Roughly 2.5 miles with 1,000ft elevation gain as per my Apple Watch. Our group hiked quickly and made it to the top in 75 minutes- this also meant that we were waiting at the top, shivering because we were underprepared with our layering, for over an hour. Don't be like us, bring layers. Key tips I wish I knew beforehand: *Use the free bathrooms before you go (all the way to the left). They're not in great shape but at least they're free (the paid ones encourage a 5k RM "donation"). On the hike down, DON'T use the first bathroom on the right, it's the worst bathroom since it's the first one hikers see when coming down. *Bring a headlamp. It's much easier to see, balance & have 2 hands free when hiking in the dark w/ a headlamp. *Bring more layers than you think. AT LEAST a fleece, +- pants, +- windbreaker. *Bring more water than you think. You will be dehydrated. *Bring more breakfast. The breakfast at the top was not great (1 cinnamon roll, 1 other bread-type item, 2 green bananas, 2 cold hard-boiled eggs). Our guide said he was "making" us breakfast. This is not what a "made" breakfast should entail. Tea or coffee at the top will cost you 30k RM.

Went along with my sister and mother who's slightly older and the guide was such a gent he helped her Hike to the very summit and back down so I had nothing to worry about. Would recommend to anyone for sure

Naris and Nadi were great guides for the morning hike up Mt Batur! They were such entertaining conversationalists in English they had us laughing the whole trek! Be prepared to get dusty from the volcanic dirt path. The driver was very prompt at picking us up on time at our hotel. Side Note: this company utilizes WhatsApp to call/text when coordinating drop off/pick up, so be sure to download the app before you leave your country of origin. Would highly recommend this experience, particularly with these two guides!

The first question to ask is whether or not you want to do a tour with Mount Batur and second whether or not this is the right tour company? To the first question, I'd answer a tentative yes. To the second question, I'd say no. Based on what I observed, there are better tour operators. I enjoyed the hike but found it very difficult to see where we were going, even with flashlights. My guide was great at helping me along but I still wished we had head lamps. The breakfast on this tour was mediocre at best and we weren't offered any beverages other than the water we carried up with us. I saw other groups drinking hot chocolate and tea, which I would have welcomed given how cold it was. One thing that really irked me is that many tour groups picked their guests up at the top of Lake Batur. Instead, we seemed to be the only group to walk down all the way. By the time we finished, the other four people in my group no longer wanted to go to the Coffee Plantation so we didn't end up going. I would like to have still gone. So my answer is go if you enjoy hiking but go with another tour company.

I was in a group tour, there were five persons in our group. Our driver Mr. Nengah is polite and friendly, he reached my hotel on time at 1 am. On the way he explained and advice good tips about the hiking conditions. Everyone has different stamina but our guide Kadek is young and energetic, he is very thoughtful and helped me through out in this hiking trip. Will definitely go for this hiking tour next time, it was memorable and scenic. Singapore, 23/05/2018. Lim.

What an amazing experience!! Our driver picked us up at 1:30am an hour earlier than expected, so make sure to verify the time prior via whatsapp. The ride up there wasn't too long and our group mostly slept. Once you get to the foot of the mountain you meet your two guides - we had Kadek and Wayan and they were fun and spoke great English and kept our spirit up when the hike got a bit rough. Speaking of which, it is NOT an easy hike. I'd sad medium to high level. This is because it is very hard to see they provide flashlights and the ground isn't very set as its a mix of sand and rocks. Once you make it up to the top there are several breaks along the way the view is absolutely to die for and it make it all worth it plus you get a warm breakfast and there is warm tea and coffee to great you : I would HIGHLY recommend this hike!!

Incredible experience with a wonderful guide!! Must do. Everything was fantastic and Naris our guide was so energetic and encouraging and set us up with the best spot to watch the sunrise over the lake and volcanoes. Excellent English and conversation. The coffee plantation stop was a bit uninformative and more of a pressure sales tactic but still worth the stop. Only caution, this is more than a moderate hike, very vertical on a lot of loose footing.
