Ideal for photographers, birders, and whale-watching enthusiasts, this 8.5-hour cruise from Seward takes you into the remote Northwestern Fjord in the Kenai Fjords National Park. The Viewfinder, your 58-foot-long (18-meter-long) boat, is the only small-vessel cruise that explores this untouched area. Narrated by a seasoned crew, the tour is limited to 36 passengers each trip. A light breakfast and deli lunch, as well as coffee, tea, and water are provided on board. Additional snacks and beverages are available for purchase.

After cruising through Resurrection Bay, discover the Chiswell Islands (part of the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge) or Cape Resurrection, home to thousands of nesting seabirds, Steller sea lions, and other wildlife. (Depending on conditions the boat’s route may change.) Don’t be surprised if you see Dall’s porpoises playing alongside the bow; or listen to the exhale of whales as they spout nearby.

Continue to Harris Bay, with hidden coves, rugged mountains, and possibly feeding whales. When you enter the untouched and untamed Northwestern Fjord, look for the alpine glaciers nestled high on the cliffs.

Spend time near Northwestern, Anchor, and Ogive Glaciers (all active tidewater glaciers), to witness glacial calving, where chunks of glacial ice break off and tumble into the water. Spot harbor seals and sea otters lounging on the icebergs.

Your cruise ends back at the Seward Harbor 360 Hotel dock in the early evening.

This experience was absolutely one of the most amazing excursions we have ever taken! Our captain Justin and his first mate Clint worked very hard to make sure we got to see the amazing sea creatures of Alaska. We saw humpback whales, orca whales, sea otters, harbor seals, and bald eagles. They took their time with the boat to make sure everyone 36 /which is the limit got to see the views and the wildlife. Watching a glacier calve was incredible. They even took us to some waterfalls, because they think these waterfalls are amazing. They allowed us to go into the cabin and talk with them while they were driving the boat. I would do this tour again in a heartbeat.

Totally awesome! A longer tour but worth every minute as you are not rushed in looking and then chasing down whales. Got to see Humpback and Orca whales up and close. Got to see many sea lions and otters. The highlight was being up and close to Northwestern Glacier and spending good amount of time watching calving. This glacier and the water surrounding was unlike any other glaciers that we saw.
