Once the summer abode of the influential Habsburg family, Schönbrunn Palace was originally designed as a hunting lodge. Empress Maria Theresa had the palace remodeled in the mid-18th century to the magnificent structure you see today.
Depart from your Vienna hotel by private vehicle in either the morning or afternoon, depending on your preference. Enjoy the brief ride to the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens (Schlosspark Schoenbrunn) and learn about the palace's history from your guide as you go.
Then, make your way into the palace on your own and wander the incredible staterooms adorned with frescoes, fine furnishings and elaborate gilded detail.
Pause to purchase a coffee or tea and then, refueled, take off toward the gardens. Explore the landscaped lawns, statues, fountains and the hedge maze at your leisure. Travel up to the Gloriette, the arcade at the top of Schönbrunn Hill, to soak up stunning views of Vienna and the palace below.
Afterward, reunite with your driver at the palace, where you'll be returned to your Vienna hotel by private coach.
