You can’t visit the U.K. without visiting York and you can’t possibly hope to see everything York has to offer without the aid of wonderful local guide. York has so much history that even most British people don’t know it all but to see even the highlights, will take at least a day.
Fortunately, we have just the tour for you. Our York Walking Tour will take you to all of the must-see sights in this ancient city whilst probably giving you idea of many other places to visit in your own time.
York was founded all the way back in 71AD and was once the Northern capital of Britannia. It’s long and often violent history later saw it as a key city in the kingdom of Northumbria before becoming Viking Jorvik.
In this private guided walk we will walk through the narrow Snickleways and the world famous medieval maze of streets known as The Shambles. Then we will visit Clifford Tower, one of the central parts of York Castle built by William The Conquerer after the pluck locals rebelled and site of a terrible massacre.
We will visit the grave of one of the most famous criminals in the history of York, Dick Turpin the Highwayman and walk along a stretch of the old city walls before stopping for lunch in any one of a number of atmospheric old pubs.
In the afternoon we will visit York Minster, the largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe whose wonderful history and architecture above ground are matched by the fantastic holy treasures kept in the museum beneath this great building.
