Absolutely fantastic! Amazing guide who actually saved having my arm ripped off by a wild orangutan Mother who was simply protecting her baby which I was taking photos of. I was traveling as a single woman I am 76, but in very good shape and feel as though I am 35! When the guide said, RUN, I think I broke an Olympic record. I am a professional photographer and in jungles and third world countries frequently, but this trip gave me realization that one should never go into a jungle without a guide - ever! The accommodations were very comfortable and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend this tour!

The title of the tour is misleading

Sandakan and Orang Utan Sanctuary from Kota Kinabalu | oct 2019
I had booked a once in a lifetime trip for myself and my teenage children. The reason for the trip was to see the orangutans. Sepilok rehabilitation centre was amazing but we only had approximately half an hr there. Then we're rushed to the sunbears who were great fun to watch and then the rest of the tour was lunch city tour and visit to market, Australian war memorial and temple. We were so disappointed to have spent an hour maximum with the wildlife. The guide did his best and if the history was what we were interested in then it would have been good but we were there for the wildlife. Our trip to Borneo cost us a lot of money and the purpose of our trip was not fulfilled with this tour. Such a shame. Can I suggest that Viator make a change to the name to avoid further disappointment for others.

Kinabalu Park and Poring Hot Spring with Lunch from Kota Kinabalu | mar 2018

It was a real disappointment, there is 3 hours travel each way so minimum 6 hours approx but no one can do anything about it. The canopy walk is trekking 30 meters or so and walking over hanging bridges that gets completed in 30 minutes approx. There is nowhere to stay up there and enjoy. The only activity is to take photographs and it is not without advanced payment. Botanical garden is a joke, its a forest with entry for tickets and exit after few minutes. Hot springs is where one can spend sometime but it requires a lot of improvements.
Also, if it rains, you would have spent all your time travelling, having lunch and come back. I think it is highly priced and not worth unless things are improved for tourists to enjoy.

Sandakan and Orang Utan Sanctuary from Kota Kinabalu | feb 2018

Had a great day the guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the centre. No orangutans at the feeding platform but did see one in the sunbear enclosure . There were also 2 that wandered from the glass feeding area so we also saw them close up. Lunch was great- typical Malaysian food.

Kinabalu Park and Poring Hot Spring with Lunch from Kota Kinabalu | oct 2017

Kasim had been a wonderful tour guide and kept us all very entertained as he brought us to the Kinabalu Park and telling us facts about each of Kinabalu's signature and distinct botanics. The canopy walk was very entertaining as well though it is a bit frightening for those who are scared of heights but nonetheless, every one makes it across very safely! The hot springs was a miss though, it definitely felt like a public pool more so our tour members were not particularly interested to hop into their facilities - to each their own!

Sandakan and Orang Utan Sanctuary from Kota Kinabalu | oct 2017

Firstly, know that you have to book additional domestic flights from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan that's not included in the package. You will receive an email after booking the tour of the suggested times and the day will start at 4-5 AM due to the pick-up. But from your hotel at KK, the tour is very organised and makes sure you're delivered to each point.

At the orangutan center, know that it is never guaranteed that you will see orangutans because it is a sanctuary in the WILD. You will see them in the nursery center behind a glass and also at the feeding platform if you're lucky. Our tour guide then took us to see Sun Bears at the center next to it Around 30 MYR at your own cost which you might as well since you flew all the way to Sandakan...

During lunch we were brought to an English tea house to have English food by the sea good restaurant and great views. Our tour guide then took us on a local city tour around Sandakan and he was very knowledgable and interesting, teaching us of local culture and history. We were very lucky to have had Omar as our tour guide - he got along with everyone very well and kept us entertained with all his intelligence! Thank you so much Omar for such a great day at Sandakan!

Sandakan and Orang Utan Sanctuary from Kota Kinabalu | oct 2017

The full day tour was great, Bennie met us in the morning at the centre, she made sure that we had great seats for the young OrangUtans,
after their feeding we went to another feeding platform, not as many this time but other monkeys. The sun bear sanctuary was good too. After we had a wonderful lunch and a couple of beers, with another couple. We then did the city tour quite interesting. Bennie was so knowledgeable. The Day was wonderful. Massive storm after dropped off, the flight was delayed 5 hours. We can't control the weather:
Oh Well Liz

Kinabalu Park and Poring Hot Spring with Lunch from Kota Kinabalu | oct 2017

We were met in our lobby on time but waited for others at their hotels. We were told roughly 11/2 hours away, it took nearly 3 hours. The canopy walk was great, and the rainforest was very pretty. We couldn't go to the mountain first as there was a climbing race going on so we drove another hour to the canopy. The hot springs were really the locals swimming pool, there were a lot of locals there, not really relaxing. The lunch was nice. Our guide Jonny was good, we left after lunch to head back to the national park, arriving at around 2.00pm. We walked around a orchid garden, which was part of the botanical gardens, and then left. Another couple of hours home. A very long day of driving, I would suggest going there in a lot more comfortable car, ours shook every bone, not comfortable at all. liz

Sandakan and Orang Utan Sanctuary from Kota Kinabalu | sep 2017

Fantastic we seen a Orang Utan in its natural environment.Had a very good and passionate Guide who showed us more around Sadakan including the must see Australian War Memorial gardens and the start of the Death March. He also took us to the floating Village to see how they live which I thought was interesting. To top it off we had lunch in a beautiful English Tea Garden over looking the City.Only poor points a long day from Kota Kinabalu, and not many Orang Utans to see as in their natural environment and do not come out as much.

Amazing guide, organised and bespoke. There was flexibility in the activities, the guide was very informative and genuinely cared about conservation and his country. We had a lovely lunch and city tour.
Can not recommend highly enough and Rusli is a real asset to the company. Amazing day.

Kota Kinabalu City Tour | may 2017

Not impressive at all on this so called half day city tour. Before our ship docked, we're in close contact with the travel agent who repeatedly confirmed us the meeting would be 2 p.m. We went out the port at 1:30 and tried to locate our guide and car. When we met our guide, he apparently was not in a very good mood, complaining that he's about to leave since he's been waiting us for nearly an hour. He said that no one from his company informed him that the meeting time was 2:00 pm.
I think that the communication between the guide and his company was poor.
Besides the not so happy first encounter, the guide did not show us all the spots listed on the itinerary. We're brought to various spots without the guide getting out of the car, walking us around and explaining to us about these visiting spots. Our tour was ended in 1.5 hours instead of 4 hours!!!
Out of the several excursions I booked through viator, I think this one is the worst and I won't recommend folks picking this tour.

Sandakan and Orang Utan Sanctuary from Kota Kinabalu | abr 2017

Great guide, but the tour description is misleading - you only spend around 3 hours in the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary, the remaining time is split between lunch at 'English Tea House' (which is picturesque but the food is quite bad) and a tour of Sandakan City that was quite boring.

Sandakan and Orang Utan Sanctuary from Kota Kinabalu | mar 2017

Had to get up early for our flight to Sandakan but seeing the orang utans at Sepilok was worth the effort. If you are doing this tour from Kota Kinabalu I would suggest you fly Air Asia. We had booked our return flight with Malaysia Airlines and when we got to the airport we found out that our flight was delayed by more 2 hrs with no real explanation. Also would have liked to have had more time at the Rehabilitation Cente but I would still recommend taking this tour.
