We enjoyed the history of these various sites in Turkey. We had our own private tour in Gallipoli. The drive was just too long from Istanbul to Gallipoli. We spent around 4 hours touring the museum and the site and took the ferry to Canukkale. Stayed there overnight then started at Troy and Pergamon for another private tour. We enjoyed the historical sites and all our guides were very knowledgeable and proud of their history. They drove us to Kusadashi and we stayed there for 3 days spending time in Pamukkale and Ephesus.
Layers of history -
Troy is really interesting for anyone interested in ancient history. Don't expect to just see the horse. Instead you're there to see the traces of the 9 different civilizations sitting on top of one other. You can walk down a flight of stairs and go back hundreds of years.
Gallipoli is for the modern history and military buffs, and especially Australian, New Zealander or Turkish. You can see battle sites and memorials for all 3 countries and see the whole story of the conflict at once.
Arcan, our tour guide was fantastic. His English is practically native, and he tells interesting stories and shows a great amount of passion for his subjects.
Their organization and transport is seamless too. The meetup point in Cannakale is easy to find right off the ferry, they kept a nice pace throughout the day and made for a great, fun day.
My 2 girlfriends and I were treated to a 5-day private tour in the most comfortable spacious mini passenger van. Our guide Ercan Yuvaz was very knowledgeable about the ancient historical sites and were patient and accomodating to our needs. Highly recommended for those who prefer small group tour.
Would highly recommend this tour! Snorkelling over the wreck in Anzac Cove was great! Gallipoli was a totally sobering experience - I still can recall some of the inscriptions that had me in tears!
Canakale was beautiful! We had a fantastic guide that bought Troy to life for us. Overall wonderful!
Great tour! Well timed, not too much waiting around, wifi on the bus, lovely guide, amazing experience!!
The Gallipoli tour is a must, particularly for Australians and New Zealanders. Very informative and moving experience. The boat trip to the landing beaches was a welcomed bonus.
Although a long day it was well organised and well worth it. My only criticism being that I found the Turkish guide a little bit difficult to understand.
The tour guide was excellent- could not fault him at all.
Had a really great day. The tour guideways an absolute walking talking history book and full of small bits of information that you don't read about in the history books. It was a long day, but well worth it.
