The Douro river is beautiful and the tour was good. The food at breakfast consisted of a roll and a croissant, but the lunch was excellent. The boat was very crowded--there weren't enough seats on the upper open deck for all the passengers so some had to stand. we were quite disappointed in the 'Wine Tour' which consisted of a 5 minute bus ride to a wine estate where we had a 5 minute talk about port, then were led to the store where we had one wine tasting. This part was hardly worth it but the Douro river cruise was definitely beautiful.

I took this tour on my first full day in Porto, and I was glad I did. It was a great introduction to the Douro Valley and better prepared me for other tours I took to the region later that week. There is a bit of chaos as we prepared to board, and it eventually became clear that there were people on the boat going on different tours. My guide found me on her list as I boarded and told me to follow her when we embarked in Regua. The boat was completely full and the dining room a bit tight, but the staff did a great job of serving breakfast and later lunch in an efficient manner and there was plenty to eat and drink! No complaints there. Most interesting was passing through the locks, and most of the time I was able to hear the English narrative, but the loud music was often distracting and irritating, sometimes playing in the background during the narrative. Everyone tried to get a seat on top in the morning, but after a couple of hours, most retreated to the air conditioned dining area because the temperature in mid-June was hovering over 40 degrees centigrade, a bit unusual at least for that time of year. Bring sunscreen and a hat! The ride was long, over 5 hours before we got to Regua, where a bus was waiting to pick us up for our wine tour. Again, a bit of chaos as different groups got off for their separate tours while others stayed on for a longer ride. The wine tasting was very well done, with plenty of wine and port to sample. Then the bus took us to the Regua train station where we could walk around the town a bit, but it was really too hot to do that for very long. Chaos again as there were no signs at the station regarding which track our train would leave from. Our guide told us track one. There was a train on track one at the designated time, but another train that you couldn't see behind it on track 3 was actually our train. Once we realized it, we got off the first train and walked around it and crossed the tracks for the other train. Our guide was almost as confused as we were about this, but she did her best to ensure that everyone was with us on the 2 hour trip back to Porto. There are other trips up the Douro and if you don't mind the long ride and it is a pleasant day, it was a nice, relaxing and great introduction to the area. But definitely go back via a small group tour by van to really get to know the people and region must better.

This made for a great day on the river. It was very well organized from start to finish. The staff did a excellent job of welcoming us onboard, showing us to assigned seating in the dining room, serving breakfast and lunch in very cramped quarters and organizing us into a number of different tour groups on arrival in Regua. My only misgiving with the day concerned the large number of people onboard. The dining room below decks was very cramped as was the upper deck for sightseeing as we went up the river. Notwithstanding, it was a very interesting tour and I would recommend it if you have a day to spare in Porto.

The tour was well-organized, and the sights were worth seeing. (And now I'll type some nonsense here to complete the 100-character minimum.)

The tour was awesome. Our tour guide was amazing. Daniel was kind and very informative. He also told us that they could pick us up and drive us to the airport to go home the next day and he took care of all the arrangements.

Douro Valley Historical Tour with Lunch, Winery Visit with Tastings and Panoramic Cruise | mar 2020
As you can see the view of the river from the vineyard, the cruise in my opinion has absolutely no added value. As we are non drinkers, we asked the winery if they offer any alcoholic drinks. We were told since it’s not part of the package, we need to pay even for water. I think from a hospitality standpoint, they could have done better

Douro Valley Historical Tour with Lunch, Winery Visit with Tastings and Panoramic Cruise | feb 2020
Fantastic day out in the beautiful Douro Valley. Our guide Ricardo was knowledgeable, polite, funny and a great host for the day. I particularly liked his linking of the music to the scenery. Highway to hell on ‘death road’ being a favourite. Equally, an excellent driver and able to split fairly between English and Spanish. The visits were top class, seeing the little carnival in Amarante, the phenomenal views of the valley, and the excellent lunch, minus local tripe, were all first class. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a relaxed day out, the chance to get out of Porto central and the opportunity to be guided by a knowledgeable local.

Fado Tour by night - Private | nov 2019
Our guide was terrific and knowledgeable and showed us the nighttime views we’d hoped for. I liked the Fado venue and the performers were excellent. The food however wasn’t up to the par of the food we’d had so far in Portugal (generally fantastic). The appetizers were delicious, as was the wine. My fish main dish however was very tough and difficult to eat. (And we didn’t receive the soup that the Viator website indicated we should have.). Overall a fun experience.

Aveiro Half-Day Tour from Porto Including Moliceiro River Cruise | nov 2019
Aveiro is a lovely little town however the comparison to Venice is not really accurate. The town itself is quite small and the canal tour was short and busy with other boats. Unfortunately the weather was miserable as well. It was raining and cold. We fully expected the boat tour to be cancelled but they had us sit down on damp seats in the rain and wind and continued on. Not their fault but in hindsight, we would have rather found a quiet little spot to sit and enjoy a drink instead of being on the boat in the rain. The guides on both the van drive and the boat were wonderful and did their best to give us all the history and information along the way.

Douro Valley Tour

star-2alancindysachs2019
Douro Valley Historical Tour with Lunch, Winery Visit with Tastings and Panoramic Cruise | nov 2019
We enjoyed the tour. The Douro Valley was absolutely beautiful. However, the bus broke down (apparently for the second time in a week) at the lunch stop...and we were then spilt up into four separate smaller vehicles. This prevented us from experiencing any narration, explanation or engagement with our tour guide. He was in another vehicle. He tried to make the best of a bad situation as did the additional drivers who arrived in the other vehicles. We have no issue or complaint with the folks who personally conducted the tour. They were great. We were upset that the tour company knowingly used a vehicle that was at risk of a likely breakdown. It negatively impacted the quality of the tour. For that reason, we can't give them a good rating. We would rate the office personnel at the pick-up stop and the tour guide and extra drivers 5 stars.
