Though it rained a lot it was still a great day. It is just beautiful and serene and I would highly recommend it though you must be able to climb a lot of stairs. Diogo was a great tour guide, everything ran on schedule, he shared lots of interesting information about the places we passed on the drive, provided snacks and water and the restaurant he picked out for lunch was great.
This was a wonderful adventure. The weather was not the best. It did everything from sunshine to rain during the walk. The beginning stairs were a bit difficult but as long as you take your time I think most people can make it. The views were stunning and you could feel the power of the river as you traversed the walkway. I was there in early April when the weather can be iffy but felt it was a good time because from what I hear the walkway can be very crowded in the summer. I may have seen 30 or 40 other people while walking the 8.5 km. After the walk our guide took us to a wonderful local bistro to have a locally sourced meal that was outstanding. The whole tour was very professionally done. Well worth the effort to visit Paiva walkway.
The Paiva Walkways are a very nice break from Porto. A comfortable drive about 1:30 minutes from our hotel. Diogo our guide was very professional and able to accommodate any reasonable requests. He is also very knowledgeable about Portugal and the region. The tour ends with a very pleasant lunch in a small village 15 min. drive from the end of the Walkways.
The Paiva walkways were wonderful, we can wholeheartedly recommended this tour! There are a lot of beautiful sights alongside the route. Our guide, Diogo, was very helpful. After the tour we enjoyed a delicious full course menu with locally produced meat and liquor. Thanks for the great experience!
This Walk is not for the lazy. It starts with a climb of around 200 steps, then sightly more steps down the other side. I have had both my hips replaced and I still found the walk easy enough - but we walk almost every day at home. We were on the walk with a couple from France and enjoyed the chance to practice a little French language. The views are spectacular and I took around 200 photographs. The lunch was at a quiet mountain village and the food was very good. Our driver was Pedro and he looked after us well. As long as you are not lazy, I would highly recommend this trip.
Excellent trip! Second time have gone canyoning first time in Australia, in the Blue Mountains outside of Sydney.
1 rent the boots, don't recommend using your own shoes.
2 would've like to see a few more suggestions in terms of what to expect/bring. For instance, it would be helpful to have in the description to bring sunscreen and a towel to dry. Also, would've been helpful to tell that lunch is at the end of the trip which we ate around 3:30p - would've been easier to plan the day and breakfast. Also, would've been good to recommend bringing a waterproof camera or go-pro
3 In the Australia trip for canyoning, the guide did take some pictures and gave them to us, which was really cool. Although not critical, the guide could've taken some pics as he had the best vantage point on some of them eg the first waterfall.
Regardless, highly recommend it. You don't need any experience, and they make it very easy.
We were going to this trip by ourselves but then I saw that Viator provided a tour of it, so we decided to have them take us which turned out to be perfect. The guide picked us up at our hotel and we were the only ones to sign up for the tour so we had a private tour. The drive was much further than I was expecting. the guide dropped us off at one end of the walk and said that he was going to drive to the end and walk backwards and meet us somewhere on the path. this turned out to be perfect because if we went ourselves we would have been forced to walk back or take a taxi back to where we started. We found out about the boardwalk along the river by an article in the NY Times in March. It is not in any book that I read and we were the only people not from Portugal on the walk. the walk is a boardwalk that goes along this beautiful river.
the guide told us that there was a lunch included. we figured that there will be a small lunch packed for us. it turned out that the guide took us to a small town after the walk and we had a wonderful lunch. the owner of the restaurant was so friendly and we had steak, salad, French Fries and rice. to start we had meat and cheese. When the meal was over the owner came over with some homemade liquor. we tried some but the guide did not. once back in the van my wife and I fell asleep for the ride home.
Overall it was a great time and we are so glad that we had the guide.
The tour was amazing! The view of the river and rapids was spectacular. Diego, our tour guide, was very helpful and took good care of us. The lunch experience was unique. Rita was an amazing host. I will highly recommend it.
It was great! Wish I wouldve known that they could have picked me up in Braga however, it would have saved me the trip. The guide also did not have a first aid kit at this point it was for himself, which I found a bit disturbing. He also didnt have ANY tools that would for instance, cut a tree in the middle of our way. Fortunately, I had my swiss knife with me, and with and a little man power, it saved the day. The guide also didnt have his own rain/waterproof hiking boots which seemed very odd. Overall, not very prepared. But the tour was nice, the guide was very friendly and accomodating. Would recommend but maybe on a less rainy day.
The tour was fantastic. The nature just a stunning. Good experience to have a sunbath on the rocks next to the waterfalls high up to the mountains. Also don't be scared of paddling. Supper good activity for everybody, unforgettable experience and very good instructor.
Rodrigo fro Detours was amazing! Passionate about his country, client focused and professional. He made extra efforts to accommodate out three young children and ensure that the trip was everything we expected it to be. And exploring the Duoro valley by jeep we saw a lot more than we would have by river cruise. We highly recommend Detours for excursions!!
Great fun experience, catching some good waves with professional teaching. After a clear instruction and a warming up, sufficient time and guidance to learn how to catch the best waves and to stand on a board. Pics and movie clips were made with a Go Pro and were already sent by WeTransfer even before we got home. Good fun and definately worth it!
